War on Terror: It's over. Sure there are lingering issues with Iran and Syria. But the big jihad is over. Osama won't be riding triumphantly through Mecca on a white horse. This clash of civilizations has fizzled. Proof? The surge in Iraq worked. The Iraq invasion was the bait to attract the worst elements of the muslim world to a killing field of our choosing. There we bled them physically and economically. Where are all the noisy demonstrations that used to be a feature of every muslim nation every Friday after prayer? Every muslim crazy who wanted to pick up a gun and fight the West has done so. They are either dead, or a prisoner or on the run or just plain demoralized. Allah gave them no big victories after the sneak attacks of 9/11. Sure, there will always be some nut willing to blow himself up for headlines. But that won't defeat Western Civilization. As for the schemers in the Arab world who dreamed of taking over the West by force, we see them now buying stock in US companies.

Watch what becomes of this latest peace initiative in Annapolis. I bet we see a new and sincere willingness by the muslim countries to accept Israel's right to exist. The average muslim already senses this and decries the conference as a betrayal. I expect afterward the Israeli's, perhaps in conjunction with the Palestinians of the West Bank will be allowed to flush out that rat's nest in Gaza while the rest of the Arab world turns a blind eye. Hamas is bad for business. And history will have to grudgingly admit that it took the Bush Doctrine to do it. Who were the great presidents who had the vision and will to get lingering issues resolved? Reagan and Bush, both Republicans. You can almost hear the Democrat's teeth grinding.

The surge isn't working, it's just propaganda BS. The picture is much bigger than some maneuvers on street corners. You are back in "Vietnam body count land".

Get real about the problem.

if anything, history teaches us that easy victories over an enemy only enrages them, as it did the Arabs after the 1967 war.

The "muslim world" as you call it is one billion people. That's 3 times us.

What has this dinky "surge" got to do with the Muslim world? The so-called "terrorists" in Iraq are 90% Iraqis, a few thousand in number.

You're in LA-LA land.

The key to peace in the Middle East is Israel making big concessions.

Can you say "Fat Chance?"

I'm afraid the invasion of Iraq, and the empowerment of Afghani rebels before that, has guaranteed terrorism a long life into the future.

I mean, along with the inherent fanaticism of a small minority of religious nutcases.

Wow...whats to answerer...I am not quite as optimistic as you, but I totally support you in theory. I know what the inscription on the Saudi Flag says and what it means. It also means the same for the entire Muslim world, and their flag, its all about their religion. there Ala, and he is the only Ala, and there are no other Ala's. They are like a bunch of old commies, patient and slowly take over from within with all their money if they cannot accomplish with force. They just do not think normal for an American mind. I mean "jihad" Americans do not even understand the total concept and meaning and do not want to know..

i don't really think their will ever be an end to the war on terror. Their will always be that lingering fear from the attacks and horrors of september 11. But i agree with you, i think we will see a huge decrease in the amount of terrorist attacks especially in Iraq where things finally seem like they are starting to come together.
