I would love to see the link from AKC which states they are a recognized breed.

The names exists and those names are applied by bad breeders and stupid people to a certain type of beagle.

This is from the National Beagle Club of America, the Beagle breed parent's club. They should know, shouldn't they?

"However, today, while there may be a few really small 13" variety beagles which may approach heights of around 10", they are not a breed or variety of beagle as such, and are not recognized by either AKC or UKC. Quite often beagles of this size are often only short by virtue of shortened legs caused by poor breeding or the dwarfing of chondodystrophy (see the Health problems page) with it's ensuing health problems."

http://clubs.akc.org/NBC/NBC_FAQs.html#24.

So, obviously, you are incorrect. I can call my dog a miniature giraffe if I want, but it doesn't make it true - or recognized by the NBCA or AKC.

Added: www.dog breed info.com/pocket

So what? Just because some website recognizes the "name" doesn't mean that it's actually a recognized BREED. Here's a website that says that GWB is an active member of the Nazi Party: http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/channel.cfm?ChannelID=44

Here's another one that says that the moon COULD actually be made of cheese:
http://www.planetfusion.co.uk/~pignut/cheese.html

I can go create a website right now that dubs my dog a mini giraffe, but I'm not going to spend the money just to prove my point to a child who just doesn't get it and isn't willing to research it with actual respected sites and organizations.

I don't know how to break it to you, but the site you've linked to is full of backayrd breeders, puppy mills, and people irresponsibly breeding dogs to make money. They also list Boxerdoodle, Cairnoodle, Frengle, Lab-Chon, Mini St. Bernard, and a bunch of other BS "breeds". lol.

Added II:
"haaaa,haaaa,haaa,haaaa

see thre are such thing and dont get mad at me"

OMG. Why am I even bothering to fight with Veruca Salt? Honey, you are wrong on all accounts. According to your logic, then as long as there is a website and you believe it to be true, then it's true.

Where on earth are your parents? Shouldn't they be teaching you that the Internet is full of BS?

I'm not "mad at you", I'm frustrated because no matter all the evidence and people telling you that you are wrong, you just don't care. You are so convinced you are right that you won't listen to reason.

Let's summarize:

There is a term "Pocket Beagle"

It is not recognized by ANY reputable breeder, the AKC, the NBCA, or any responsible dog group.

If you choose to recognize it, then you will be labeling yourself as ignorant. But, that's your choice.

"Pocket beagles were bred in the 1300's and 1400's and were said to be about 9" at the withers (shoulder). There is no such thing as a modern-day pocket beagle and in fact, the term "pocket beagle" has become synonomous with poor quality puppies bred for the pet market, and often sold to pet shops. Reputable (U.S.) breeders breed according to the Standard defined by the American Kennel Club, which includes two height varieties: not exceeding 13" at the withers, and not exceeding 15". The light bones, high ear sets and toyish heads that tend to go along with very small sized beagles are listed as faults.

In addition to not breeding according to the standard, the majority of "pocket beagle" breeders allow many of the common genetic defects (e.g., hip dysplasia and epilepsy) to be passed along. The result is often an unhealthy dog.

If you still want a small beagle, then consider the option of adopting a fully grown adult from a rescue or the pound. Most beagles are fully grown by about 1-1/2 years, and breeders can usually tell by about 8 months if a beagle will remain under 13". "

www.dogbreedinfo.com does NOT say they're recognized by AKC. In fact, under 'recognition', NOTHING is listed.

Ok , Dear , Whoever told you that lied alot .
There is no such thing as a pocket beagle nor is there such thing as a miniature beagle . Neither are recognized by the AKC because they do not fit standards of the regular Beagle .If they do not fit regular standards , then they cannot be registered AKC . Anything with the word " miniature " or " teacup " or " pocket " obviously is a BYB trying to make a profit of dogs that are beyond regular standards or under regular standards . People who sell those type of dogs only want profit .

They actually DO exist for those of you who don't know. But they ARE NOT recognized by the AKC... only the QEPBF, and IABCA. The reason people can't find them, is they are in the Q's for their formal breed name: Queen Elizabeth Pocket Beagle.

In Medieval times, there was a breed of dog called a pocket beagle, which stood at 8 to 9 inches. Small enough to fit in a “pocket” or saddlebag, they rode along on the hunt. The larger hounds would run the prey to the ground, then the hunters would release the small beagles to continue the chase through the underbrush into their burrows. Queen Elizabeth I often entertained guests at her royal table by letting her pocket beagles cavort amid their plates and cups. This genetic line is now extinct. The modern Queen Elizabeth Pocket Beagle was founded by Rebecca Van Meter of Indiana. The Queen Elizabeth Pocket Beagle breed name is trademarked. All dogs registered as such must have a Queen Elizabeth Pocket Breeds Foundation Birth Certificate. During the developing years of the breed, all dogs shall be required this proper birth certificate for acceptance in any registry. Having two registered parents does not automatically qualify a dog for registration if it lacks this birth certificate. Any exception is a violation of the Foundation's trademark. The beloved Beagle in miniature, a Queen Elizabeth Pocket Beagle is normally bred as a pet and may have a softer look than a hound bred for the field. Keeping in mind that this breed is only in it’s second decade from out cross, to reduce size , add colors, and coat patterns, some traits of the out cross will be visible in current generations. Though they may be awarded a lower placing these dogs should not be disqualified from breeding or exhibition as they are vital in diversification of the gene pool. Queen Elizabeth Pocket Beagles are presented on a table in the show ring.

Height: 6-12 inches (15.2-30.5 cm.)
Weight: Teacup- 4 to 15 pounds (1.8-6.8 kg.)
Toy-15 to 25 pounds (6.8-11.3 kg.)

You didn't read very carefully, or you are eager to believe fairy tales - there is NO AKC recognition of anything called "pocket beagles". They come in two sizes, 13 and 15 inch, period.

There are tons of sites from lying, money grubbing breeders claiming to have these pocket beagles - they breed undersize runts who are unhealthy and CANNOT BE SHOWN OR REGISTERED WITH THE AKC.

Those are the facts - nothing else.

There was a fad in the time of Queen Elizabeth I
for something called pocket beagles, they were said to be 9 inches, but they were undersize, underfed runts and NEVER acknowledged as a legitimate breed.

Next thing you will believe in is pocket unicorns.

Go to the AKC website - check out all the breeds - those are the only legitimate ones.

Go back and take a good look at the dogs on the site. There are plenty of pics of cute little puppies, but no decent pictures of adult dogs. Also, if you read the fine print, the admit that they cannot guarantee size.

This goes beyond breeding runts to runts. Makes me wonder what they used as an out-cross.

Dwarfism is a real condition that can happen (rare), but it certainly is NOT something any breeder should be striving to produce. They tend to be VERY sickly and have no place in the breeding gene pool.

Ok, where's the "pocket" beagle?

Wow! I was not aware! Could you please give me the link where you found such fascinating and valuable information? =)

Edit*
Hahaha dogbreedinfo.com is the best you can give us? Notice that at the bottom, it says "Recognition- " and it's blank because nobody recognizes them as a breed. They are being listed on dogbreedinfo.com but that doesn't mean it's a breed. IT IS A SCAM BY IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDERS!

Edit 2*

Haaaa Haaa Haaaa? Just because some idiotic, irresponsible BYB has a website advertising their tiny runts does NOT MAKE THEM A REAL BREED. Just admit you're wrong! You've got over 15 people telling you that you are. JUST ADMIT IT! It's okay! A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that these stupid BYB's are actually producing a real breed! =)

Yea but how many people actually breed the correct QEPB? The pics I saw look like Chi/Beagle mixes and most likely the BYB cull the dogs that look to much like a Chi.

A Miniature Beagle, to me, would be the 13'' variety. But they don't deserve a 'special' name.

There are "miniature" & "pocket" Beagles in as such that irresponsible breeders breed away from the breed standard and use this as a sales gimic. In responsible breeding & reputable registries there are no such things.

Be aware that these delibrately bred undersized dogs very often have serious health issues.
Responsible breeders only breed to meet the breed standard.
