I believe in modesty. I don't wear any of my skirts above the knee and most are below the knee. My shirts don't show any cleavage either so don't think I don't value modesty. In a lot of extremist Muslim places even the ankle is considered offensive and if the woman doesn't cover her head all the way in Iran she can be beat with a stick. Even back in biblical times women didn't cover their face. Ankles, faces, and hair are not indecent.

Islam does not consider a woan's body to be offensive. If this were the case, then women would be social outcasts, not eligible for men to marry.

Islam considers most of a woman's body to be the source of beauty that easily distracts. Islamic modesty is the solution offered to help a society flow better.

In Islam, modesty is one of the important practises. It is not listed in the 5 Pillars list of Sunni central practises and beliefs, and it is not listed in the Shia list of 15 major beliefs and practises. It is, however, one of the required elements of Islam by which all Muslims must adhere.

Modesty, family life, and marriage are intrinsically linked. Different levels of modesty are practised by the Muslim when he or she is with family, as opposed to when he or she is with non-relatives.

The close family of a Muslim woman, in terms of Islamic law, consists of any female relative and, in some cases, any female, her father and his preceding male ancestral line, her mother and her preceding male ancestral line, her blood brothers, and her blood uncles. These are called mahrams - properly, maharem. Uncles who have married into the family, as well as cousins, are not close relatives in Islamic law. Obviously, women are not related to all women on earth. The reason that some scholars include all women is because of the natural lack of interest that women have in each other beyond simple friendship. "Preceding male ancestral line" refers to fathers, gradfathers, etc.

When a Muslim woman is with her family, she may reveal more of her body than when she is in a more public sphere. When a woman is with men who are not related to her, she must cover her body exept her face and her hands. This Islamic law is derived from the Qur'an (24:31, et al) and from ahadith) The ayah at 24:31 indicates that a woman should use the same cloth that is on her head to cover her chest. This has the result of hiding the body shape form the head to the torso. Those who oppose the covering of the head try to claim that the ayah only calls for the covering of the chest. Those same opponents cover their heads when they pray. This is in response to the command of Prophet Muhammad that a woman cover her head when she pray. His words are similar to the following: The prayer of a woman without her khimar (headscarf) are invalid. The ayah at 24:31 uses the same word, "khimar", as the hadith. The meaning of the word does not change. A woman hides the shape of the rest of her body withsuitably loose-fitting clothing that does not reveal anything about her shape or form.

While men are technically not required to cover very much of their bodies, normal social practises have been referred to in Islamic law to the point where they really do need to cover their torsos and their legs to their knees. Most cover their arms and all of their legs.

Unrelated women and men cannot engage in useless or idle chatter. Conversations need to be focused and have direction. Usually, religion, academia, and business are permitted topics. Men and women do not touch each other or look at other than hands and faces until after marriage.

These are measures of social control that are aimed at the preservation of family structure in order to enjoy a maximally healthy family life.

There are several reasons that I wear hijab. The first and most important is because I want to obey Allah. God commanded women to cover themselves. In 24:31, the Qur'an tells Muslim women to use their khimars to coevr their chests. The khimar is the same clothing about which Prophet Muhammad spoke when he said that the prayers (worship) of a Muslim woman would not be accepted unless she wore the khimar. Obviously, then, the khimar is used for covering the head and is obligatory to wear when a woman is in public.

The second reason is because it is part of my natural modesty. I am very shy about my head, arms, legs, and body shape on general. My shyness is not so much that I want to run and hide as it is a sense of pride and self-preservation. It is *mine* and I don't *want* anyone to see it except my closest family. This is also the same reason that I wear roomy outer clothes and restrict my colours to darker, less brilliant ones and keep to monochromatics.

The third reason is that I feel much safer dressed modestly. I don't experience as much of that horrid look taht we women sometimes get. I know other covered women who have got the look. They also know who gave it to them, and those men are well-known as the scum of society. I still take the normal measures of precaution, but I do feel much more secure in public than I did befoe I covered this way.

The fourth reason is that I am now usually judged on my intellect and my contributions to society. People have ceased to expect me to display a certain fashion or look a certain way. They have become much more interested in what I have been doing, saying, or writing. I am happier this way.

The reference to freedom of hijab does not make any sense to me at all. There are some in my family who want desperately for me to stop weaing the headscarf and the outer cloak. I refuse. This is my comfort zone, and I refuse to leave it.

The question is why you think Muslims consider a woman's body offensive??

A woman's body is described in Islamic teachings as a pearl or a precious jewel that should be saved for those who are closest to her. Beating a woman because she does not cover is not an Islamic teaching, but an extreme way of control that men with weak iman (faith) do. Modesty in Islam is not a matter of indecency, and if you value modesty, why on earth do you ascribe such attributes toward it?

~~~~~~
Btw: it's the style in Iran to cover half of the head and leave the other half exposed. If they get beaten over this, why do almost all of the women do it?
with a bit of luck you're able to provide up ranting long sufficient to examine an answer and think of approximately it. Islam forces overlaying of the finished lady physique of ALL women previous the age of puberty. it fairly is an element of demeaning, controlling and conserving women people as 2nd type voters. A veil or habit on a Catholic non secular women people is in no way EVER a overlaying of the finished face or physique. it fairly is often purely a head overlaying to be an outward sign to all like a marriage ring is to maximum folk. a marriage ring says somebody is off limits as they're married to a distinctive already. A habit on a non secular lady is the comparable different than it ability she is married to Christ and is likewise deserving of the extra appreciate you will possibly have the money for a non secular guy or woman. working example, you would be plenty extra careful around this holy lady including your language, jokes, strikes etc out of appreciate. enormous enormous enormous distinction you're able to desire to point out. The Catholic non secular lady CHOOSES the existence and how of existence and is of a similar opinion to the habit and all. She is in no way pushed into it or asked to do it different than by ability of God. The islamic lady is compelled by ability of guys to positioned on the overlaying or be crushed-carried out. The Catholic lady can end at any time and pass back to civilian, standard lay existence if she desires. there will be no beating or violence of any form. The islamic lady is caught. I certainly have traveled across the international and spoke of those customs with my very own eyes besides to my college education. You for sure have little information of what is going on previous your community. The burqha and hijab are very demeaning and restricting for women people in lots of countries of the international. attempt even using a vehicle in some worldwide places as a woman.... in case you get caught you would be charged and sentenced to a harsh punishment. we are speaking approximately being stripped of your outfits and crushed with a cane or a whip of one form or yet another. it fairly is actuality. attempt even reading the information on line of places like Saudi Arabia. Sounds super like oil, funds and Arabs in super autos.....nicely that's no longer the only concern happening there. attempt traveling as a woman and spot the mess you will could desire to pass by means of.
Who told you they find a woman's body offensive?
Muslim women cover themselves out of modesty, not because anyone is offended.
From my understanding. Its not that women's bodies are offensive so much as they are attractive. They are to be covered to keep men from lusting after them.
It's part of their culture and heritage. They are raised to believe that way. The only way to counter it is through education, and that's a tough road to hoe.
