That's not entirely true. I think I heard him singing the verses of the song "The Way I Are," and he also sings with Nelly Furtado in "Promiscuous." But he's a producer, mostly.

1) he thinks that for new artists, if he puts his name with theirs, more people will take notice of the newcomers talent

2) usually a producer doesn't get much credit and he wanted it

3) he asked the artists to do the songs with him

4) he also does backround for all the artists vocally or in instruments (real or electronic)
