No, danes tails are not docked at birth, but they are prone to injury, which is why you see a lot that have docked tails. Tails do not heal well once injured and are prone to re-injury and necrosis, even if treated.

Today, the reason I still think it's a good idea is because they have really thin "whip-like" tails. Even just from getting excited and smacking their tails on the wall is enough to split them open. Often, this ends up in a portion of the tail having to be amputated because they simply will not heal. Frankly, it amazes me that pit bulls, staffies, and the like aren't docked - they often have the same problems. They don't usually dock Great Danes, but in many cases they probably should - I've bandaged many a Dane tail. I can tell you from experience, a bleeding wagging tail is one hell of a mess.

NO, absolutely NOT...Dane tails are NOT docked!!!
On occasion a Dane may need to have it's tail amputated becasue of injury, but otherwise a Dane has it's tail.

No, great dane tails are not usually docked. It is a disqualification in show dogs, and there is no reason for it to be done.

Nope, though I have seen a couple with them docked, technically amputated. One was because it's tail got slammed in a door.

No, tails should not be docked.
Also it is becoming more and more common for the ears to remain natural.

Unless there is a medical reason, the tail is left on.
