I have an abcess in my 6 year old molar.
For the past 2 months I have gone through really bad pain everday. The has been pain is shooting up the right side of my face, basically I get a headache everyday. I had recently put "temporary filling" in my tooth, which made it feel 10x better, it has been coming off for the past few days which was exposing my nerve to everything( IT WAS HELL). My question is how do you know when the nerve is dead?

Right now I have a really bad headache, but it feels like my tooth has a pulse but it doesn't hurt. Does that mean the nerve is dead?

if your feeling pain then the nerve is not dead. most time when the nerve dies then the color of the tooth turns black as it is not getting any nutrients it is a different kind of black then when your tooth itself rots.

I have a situation where I had a root canal, therefore the nerve should have been removed but I still have pain in my tooth on occassion, the cause of this I am told is because the nerve wasnt' all the way extracted, therefore in your case I'm going to assume the nerve isn't completely dead yet it might be almost dead but not completely, because if it were you would not feel any pain in it as there would be no nerve endings.

I imagine when you feel no pain. I suggest you go to a dentist.
