Hi,
My dog has a really bloated, distended stomach, yet displays none of the other signs of bloat.
He hasn't been trying to throw up, restless, anxious, hunched up, panting, drinking too much, and he's not in pain at all, even if I gently press his stomach. Also, his stomach is making the normal gurgling noises.

But it's very noticeable, and although he's burping quite a lot, he can't seem to get rid of the gas.

Can anyone help or offer any advice?

Thanks a lot.

I had many years of this trouble with my dog. The vets kept saying it was gas trapped in his stomach and there was nothing they could do. I went to another vets and they diagnosed him with pancreatits. He still suffers with it now if he has anything too fatty. He has to have tablets srinkled on his 'low' fat dog food. Its such a shame for him. See if your vet will do a blood test for it

When most people talk about "bloat" in a dog, they are actually talking about the stomach filling up with air and flipping, cutting off the blood supply. It is a deadly situation. Your boy sounds like he has gas, but his stomach hasn't flipped or he would be in distress. Dogs can burp but not very well. I wish I knew what to tell you would help. I call my vet and see what they would recommend.

Although dairy food is not usually recommended for dogs, goats yogurt is mild.

Keep a supply of this in your fridge and add a small amount of Bi carbonated Soda to this. (I have GSD's which are about 33kgs).With tummy problems I add about half a level teaspoon to yogurt and this sorts out tummy problem. They love goats yogurt.

Also consider a diet change. Omit grain, beef and it's derivates and dairy food which is from cows. Explore the Internet for recommendations on diets.

my rottie had it, asap surgery. about 3's year later he had another attack, on the operating table he died. please get your dog to the hospital and a knowledgable vet. cows get this alot too, it is when the stomack twists, the stomach has nothing holding it in place, surgery to create scar tissues is what vets try so the scar tissues grow & hold stomach to the walls of the inside abs.it is most painful. don't let your dog play several hrs. after eating. call another vet please.

i agree with Koala. i have a mini-dach with the same problems. he just had it the other day as well. i get antacid tablets FROM the vet (not human kind), and he gets better. the pancreitis thing a year ago cost us a lot of money, but he got better.

He could have a twisted stomach (and that can kill him), I would take him to the vet, he's got to be uncomfortable, poor little guy.
