I just belive in different arguments then some of you and it is dissapointing the amount of negative answers. Im now going to attempt to answer some of the questions put to me- so here goes:

. Doesn't your current existence seem pointless to you, considering that you believe it's only an ephemeral stop on the path to eternal happiness?
No it doesn’t – although I believe it is short lived, I don’t believe it is meaningless, and I don’t think I believe that I have eternal happiness straight after death. :D I find it amusing being told what I believe and what I do not believe...

.Out of curiosity, how are you supposed to enjoy heaven when the souls of the damned are screaming in eternal torment below you? Won't your reward be a little tarnished knowing that your fellow human beings are down there? Could you enjoy heaven while other people suffer? Will the screaming keep you up at night? Do they supply you with earplugs in heaven?
Well…IF I believed that I would have had to have said No – my reward wouldn’t be ‘tarnished’. IF I believed that I would think that maybe the people deserved it & God knows best. Supposedly because ‘heaven’ is a place of eternal bliss, I wouldn’t be able 2 hear them or feel them so the suffering and pains of torment wouldn’t bother me. That also means the screaming WOULDN’T keep me up at night & I wouldn’t need ear plugs. Although, if I REALLY wanted them I’m sure I could get them. It IS heaven after all. But, alas, that is not what I believe.

.Theists, why don't you believe in The Flying Spaghetti Monster?
One of those stupid questions I was talking about. The only answer I can give to that is why would I? Although you may feel there is no evidence to believe in God, obviously believers do, and comparing God to a flying spaghetti monster, is just really dumb. Your obviously trying to be funny and although so religious jokes can be funny, but your not, so maybe you should stop trying?

2007-12-21 10:46:54 · update #4

. Doesn't the thought of some god was watching your every move waiting for you to mess up so he can burn you for eternity scare you?
Hmm yeah that would scare me if I believed that is what God does. Which I don’t. :D

2007-12-21 10:47:15 · update #5

These 2 aren’t really questions but im gonna answer 2them any way…

. For the same reason you don't believe in the hundreds of *other* gods that are out there. We're actually more alike than you might think. I just disbelieve in one more god than you.

I would think that applying my reasoning in believing in other Gods to your reasoning in not believing any would not make any sense on your part – again, amusing when people like the think they know what my beliefs actually are. Also I would think that there are much bigger issues than believing in God that would make us more different.

. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

Hmm – I DO understand why I dismiss other gods, and yes, I have SOME understanding of why atheists do not believe in God. But, again, I would think applying the answer to one of these questions to answer the other would make no sense.

Death is nothing to be afraid of unless you follow that outdated belief in hell. I do not believe because there is zero proof of a god, heaven, hell, jesus, or anything after we die.

For the same reason you don't believe in, say, Zeus.

Illogical. No evidence.

Nope. I'm not scared of the finality of death. Doesn't your current existence seem pointless to you, considering that you believe it's only an ephemeral stop on the path to eternal happiness?

When I'm dead I'm dead. Do you remember what it was like before you were born? Were you scared before you were born?

Out of curiosity, how are you supposed to enjoy heaven when the souls of the damned are screaming in eternal torment below you? Won't your reward be a little tarnished knowing that your fellow human beings are down there? Could you enjoy heaven while other people suffer? Will the screaming keep you up at night? Do they supply you with earplugs in heaven?

EDIT: Don't confuse mere disagreement with rudeness. You sound as though you have a persecution complex. If you're looking to be offended you will be. A difference of opinion is not tantamount to an insult. Understand?

Furthermore, alcoholics are comforted by alcohol. This does not mean, however, that alcoholism is a good thing.

EDIT: "No it doesn’t – although I believe it is short lived, I don’t believe it is meaningless, and I don’t think I believe that I have eternal happiness straight after death. :D I find it amusing being told what I believe and what I do not believe..."

Well, you're more easily amused than I. The salient point that you failed to grasp was that you believe in life after death. Believing there is another life after this one automatically negates the value of the one you have now. Unless you assume the life after this one is terrible and short. Is that what you believe? Of course not. It's most likely you have some Judeo-Christian idea of the afterlife. The fact is, you capitalise God like all the Abrahamic religions. You're either a Christian, Jew or Muslim. And a disengenous one at that.

EDIT: Regarding the FSM and the guy who said we only believe in one less god than you: You are missing the point. You believe in some kind of deity. Regardless of what deity that is, it is still only one deity. Therefore you reject all the other gods. You don't believe in Shiva, you don't believe in Zeus, Thor, Vishnu etc. You don't believe in them for the same reason that we don't believe in ANY of the gods. Why don't you tell us what god it is that you believe in?

EDIT: "Open to interpretation loool you may see it like this, others may see his acts as love"

Is this an admission that you believe in Yahweh, or are you just defending Christians? Like I said, you're either a disengenous member of one of the three Abrahamic religions or you've just invented an idea of god that suits you; probably picking certain characteristics and discarding others, in which case you're even worse than a fundie Christian - at least they base their beliefs on something, you're just making up an idea of god that you like. In other words, you're starting with the answer you like and then looking for the questions that support it.

Why don't you tell us what god you believe in? You're being intellectually dishonest and disengenous.

I would be more scared of dying if I did believe in the christian god, considering what a violent, wrathful psychopath he is.

EDIT: Hey, Cafeteria Christian! Read your Bible! Why do so many christians have not the SLIGHTEST clue about what their religion actually TEACHES? At least the fundies are being intellectually honest and following god's law to the exact letter!

Because everything I've read about 'god/s' is an obvious lie.

Add to that the fact I haven't any evidence or sign of such a thing....it's not my choice.

I don't discount the possibility of deities...

....but until there is evidence, I may as well believe in a55monkeys.

Yeah everyone's scared of dying (to one degree or another), that's why we invent 'afterlifes'.

I see no good reason to believe in any gods and, yes, I am a bit scared of dying but then so is every Christian I've ever met.

I have never seen anything that would make me think a god was even a remote possibility.

Death doesn't scare me. Everyone dies. It's part of life.

Doesn't the thought of some god was watching your every move waiting for you to mess up so he can burn you for eternity scare you?

Because everyone has to stop believing in fairy tales at some point. We just let go of one more than believers.

And as long as it's not violent or from a prolonged illness, I'm not terribly afraid of death.

I am not afraid of death. Billions of people have experienced it and none of them are complaining.

The first 5 or so people who answered your question use logic represented in mass quantities on the website http://www.godisimaginary.com
If you're really interested in the reasons, it lays them out fairly well there (but please ignore the repetition).

One Nation Indivisible, you should credit Stephen Roberts for that quote. Or make it apparent that it's a quote at all.

I've repeated this so many time that I've put it in my profile..."I talked to God, and he never talked back. I asked and he never answered. I prayed and he ignored. I begged and he did nothing. I walked away and he disappeared. That's when I realized that all those times, I was alone and that there is no god. I'm Atheist now."
