I have no idea why they were told not to feed rice of any kind - my wolfhound ate rice regularly.

They need to put him on a top quality food - Innova, Canidae, Solid Gold, Wellness. Don't use puppy food for a giant breed dog, nor would I suggest using Timberwolf Organics or Innova EVO because they're too high in protein.

Why wouldn't they get advice and recommendations on food from the puppy's breeder? Unless they're back yard breeders, that would be the best resource for all kinds of info.

Feed a high quality food with meat as it's 1st source (and several after that too). Ask the breeder what they raise their dogs on. They will have the best idea what will keep the dog growing at a healthy pace. Keep in mind that Wolf hounds are big dogs and not cheap to feed.

hmm. Well almost every food with grain has rice, so I would say do a grain free food like Wellness CORE, EVO, Solid Gold Barking at the Moon, Orjen,Timberwolf,...hmm all I can think of at the moment. All are packed with plenty of high quality meat fruits and veggies and no access grain fragments for a working dog.

ADD: OH wait a minute your pup is only 3 months old. All grain free foods are reccomened for adult dogs only. I honestly don't know what to say. The only pup suitable food with no rice is all the junk brands like Iams, purina, science diet etc etc etc etc.

Rice is grain and this with any other grain can be difficult to digest.

From my research I have also found that grain, dairy food together with beef and it's derivatives should also be avoided.

Try a food which uses beet pulp for fibre.

Rice can cause constipation. I feed my animals Iams on my vet's recommendation.

Try a good vegetarian food - no sick, dead or dying cows added to the food. Rice is pretty much filler, just carbs and no nutrients, so its kind of a waste.
