My doctor told me I have Tourette's Syndrome. & when I have my tics & outbursts, others tell me, I'm acting obscene & inappropriate. Or if they see me calm, they say, "I don't see you with Tourette's. You're using that as an excuse." The tics kick in when I'm under any kind of stress, anxiety, or excitement. People call the cops on be because they don't understand what TS is like. & I almost always get sent to jail. Lately, my tics have gotten MUCH worse & more uncontrollable.

People just love to think they know so much more than they really do. Ignore these people. I'm sorry you continue to have jail time for this. You'd think the officers would know you by now and can help you get out of that type of situation with as little anxiety as possible.

You might want to check with your psychiatrist to alert him of the raised symptoms. (Some medications especially combined with others can exacerbate TS type symptoms. Your doctor will be able to make sure this isn't the case and may be able to give suggestions on how to recognize anxiety triggers and avoid them during this already stressful holiday season.)

People have to believe there is something wrong with you that could never be wrong with them or they would be scared to death.

Tourettes is especially difficult because of its social implications, but you know what they are so you are prepared. If someone says to you that you are acting "obscene and inappropriate" look them in the face and say, "yes, if you look Tourette's up online it will explain all about it". Then walk away. It is not up to you to educate the world, but if it makes you feel better to have an answer, that's a good one.

Can your doctor give you a card to carry, in case of another police call? Is there a bracelet or some other form of ID that you could use? If not, there should be.

Hey, I'm a depressed psychotic. Screw them people. To heck with em. You are what you are. It doesn't sound all that much to me, but I can tell you my friends are the ones who offer help, not diagnoses.

Simply put, fear and ignorance drive these sorts of infuriating behaviors.

So sorry to hear that you've been victimized by these dolts.

Hang in there,
