Well, I'm going to the vet next week to get her ears flushed, we already made the apointment. What I was wondering is if there's anything I can do to give her some "temporary" relief now? I don't think I should use a qtip, cause that would just push the wax in deeper wouldn't it? Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks so much! :) She is a lab and she's almost 7 years old. Thank you. ((My boyfriend's dog, this is kind of new to me)).

You are right about not putting the q-tip in her ears, it will only make it more painful and you could inadvertently rupture her eardrum - the insides of dogs' ears are just as delicate as ours, and her thrashing around could make it dangerous.

What I would suggest you do between now and when she sees the vet is mix a small cup with half rubbing alcohol and half vinegar, then use a syringe to put a few drops in each ear, rub it in, and leave it alone. She will shake out the excess - the alcohol will dry up any liquid in her ears, and the vinegar will kill any bacteria spores and help 'eat up' some of the wax. I use this on my dogs all the time to keep their ears clean.

It's easy.. you can use either store bought ear cleaning pads .. or a cleaning liquid.. (there are a few homemade versions I'm sure work just as well).. You pour a little in the ear.. massage it.. (it should sound squishy.. ) let the dog shake it's head.. then use a little bit of tissue to wipe away the excess.. (taking care not to go too far in)

As long as the dog does not have an ear infection, it is really easy to do yourself.. (about once a week or so should do for most long/floppy eared dogs)

I clean my dog's ears every 2 weeks with a QTip and a liquid my Vet game me. I can't think of the name right now though, I'm sorry. If you keep up with the cleaning every few weeks hopefully you won't have to go back to the Vet.

you could go to pet store and buy cleaner made esp for dogs ears. squeeze quite a bit into ear massage outside base of ear then you can wipe out ear with cotton ball. you are right do not stick q tip in there and do not use peroxide. peroxide is made of hydrogen and water the hydrogen bubbles off and the water stays in their ears which will only make it worse

Well, my dog has an earinfection and what calms him down is when you either dab it with ice ( it took some time for him to trust me with that) or if you do something to make them temporarily forget the pain, like playing fetch.
You could also get some dog ear drops that have a natural pain killer I mnot sure they still sell this.

don't use q-tips. you can get some cleanser from the pet store that you put in the ears and rub around, then wipe out with cotton swabs or a couple sheets of folded up toilet paper. don't put anything in the ear if the dog has any infections, just wipe the ear out gently with tp..

You need to find any ear cleaner to loosen up the wax, so you can wipe it out with a papertowel or cottonballs. Your vet should be able to recommend a good one.
