I have an interview for a job as a recreational coordinator but really dont have much experience in it -- it says they want me to:
"create and coordinate recreational activities program based on resident interests. (it also says) This position requires planning, organizing and implementing a total activities program for an upscale senior community. Event planning expertise preferred"
Does anyone have experience in this. DO you have any ideas about recreational programs?? I have basic ideas like bowling, movies, museum but I need more in depth information on what they may be reffering to when they say they want me to plan organize and implement. Please those who work in this type of field help! I will give 10 point to the best answer. I really need a good in depth answer. I know what the word plan, organize and implement mean but if some of you work in the field how did you go about doing this???

movies, card games, bingo, musums, shows, concerts, and also include outside activities like trips to casinos, shopping, touring(parks, local and sometimes long distance sites)etc. Get the community involved by asking them what they like to do. Get volunteers to help with the planning and execution of these trips, outings for lunch and dinner. If indeed this is truely an upscale senior community they have the funds for this kind of activity. Seniors are a blast, and its an experience you will always cherish, go for it but be honest in telling the interviewer that you don't have the experience, but that you can do the event planning, bet you have planned a wedding, graduation party, party, shower, etc. sometime in you life experiences, its much like being a banquet and catering executive for a hotel, ever plan a surprise party for a friend or a dinner party, see you do have experience. What seniors care about is someone who cares, will treat them with respect, I always call my seniors Mr. and Mrs., will talk to them not down to them, will talk to them about anything, and spend quality time with them. It is a great and rewarding esperience. gl

I don't know much about this but I would send a leaflet or whatever introducing yourself and then ask them for ideas about what kind of activities they would like to participate in.
You can put ideas yourself, like a barbecue, themed parties or whatever.
They do this stuff at my apartment complex.

. It has something to do with looking after senior citizens and keeping them entertained. You know what they can be like when they all get together, they can be intimidating, occasionally you may have to restrain them or physically beat them if they do not carry out your instructions.
