You can do the buddy program, but the marines are bad at holding you to that. Army or air force is prolly your best bet for it. Make sure the buddy program is in your contract though.
That would ensure you train and are stationed together.

Consider this. Many firefighting jobs are civil service, and that means they give priorities to veterans. So, being a Vet will be a BIG help.
As far as the marines are concerned, why do you want to join. If it is just to learn firefighting, then, go Air Force or Navy. Join the marines only if being a marine is the most important reason for wanting to join the Marines.

I will tell you what. The Corps is your best option for any field that you want to work in. The Corps is the only brank that fights on land, in the air, and at sea. We have more opportunity that any other branch of the service and for all of these people out their that think you do not have to be intelligent to be a marine that was the old Corps, when you were just a bullet stopped. The Corps has the highest average ASVAB scores for any branch of the military and that is a fact. In addition to all of that the Corps will install in you a level of value, honor, and dignity that one can only achieve in the Corps. There is not branch equal to us. We are the best and they all know it. If you chose to accept our challenge you will be greatful to us for the rest of your life. You will love the Corps. and everything it represent. The Corps makes great young men and women achieve what they never thought they could.
I promise you the Marine Corps will help you in your ultimate goal of being a fire fighter but it that is all you want out of it then you better join the Army or Navy because we want young people that want to be a Marine first and foremost and a fire fighter second.

if you want a reasonable guarantee for the the buddy program, choose the army, navy, or air force. also if you want to be a firefighter i think the navy is the best option (all sailors get some firefighting training and ship damage control personnell get extensive firefighting training (and you would be suprised how many fires break out on ships))

If you want to get the best training in firefighting, join the Navy, in my humble opinion. If I recall correctly, every sailor aboard ship must be trained in firefighting and the Navy has a rate called “firefighter” which, through research” means they work in engineering spaces aboard ship. I have a friend who went from volunteer firefighter to the Navy and he loves it.
So, in short, go Navy.

the military is a bad idea. you could end up in Iraq! you're better off going straight to a fire academy at a comm college like someone mentioned.
Otherwise you'll be several years behind the bright students who went right to the academy....
or you could end up in Walter Reed or some other god forsaken hell-hole of a cannon fodder repository
