Why would a non Christians do that? Do they have to?

Are u a person of Islam or a Jew. Were you offered a bible to swear on without any question asked about whether you believe in it?

Are you a person who does not believe in anything? What do you choose to swear on?

Are there options in courts? How far do they go? Witchcraft? Satinism?

Are you a Christian who believes in God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit; but do not have confidence in the bible as His inspired Word? Why swear on a book you do not trust?

Would you just go ahead, and swear on the Book they put in front of you. even if you do not believe in it? Why or why not?

If you did swear on a bible you don't believe, did you feel like a liar doing it.

God commanded that we NOT give false witness, in the 10 commandments. If you don't believe in Him, why believe in truth telling?

Ironically the Bible says you should not swear on it, so I wouldn't.

I would prefer not to have to swear to the truth on a holy book of any kind. My word is my bond, and I don't need to do something hokey, like putting my hand on the Bible, or any religious text, to attest to my honesty. As a nonbeliever, the whole point would be lost on me anyway, since I wouldn't consider it wrong to swear on the Bible, and then lie. I just wouldn't lie, period, if I swore to tell the whole truth. Is the point that for believers, if they DON'T swear on the Bible, they MIGHT be lying?!? Should I carry one around with me all the time and make all believers swear on it, every time they make a promise, or a claim, etc.? Where, oh where, does it end?!?!?

Because telling a lie would be wrong and dishonorable.

Courts usually give the option of swearing or affirming to tell the truth and most don't require a hand on the Bible, just a raised hand to swear or affirm.

Now in Texas, an atheist can't give testimony because they won't swear to God. I don't know about heathens, pagans, Muslims, Hindus or other "non-believers".

Personally, I affirm whenever I have to swear an oath officially and don't explain why I won't use the word God and no one has asked yet.

Before my family, friends and my deities, I swear on our Kindred oath ring and swear to my gods and goddesses.

No. In the UK I don't think Bibles are still used.

If I could choose, I don't think I would use a book. It's just ritual, it doesn't really mean anything any more. If I had to I suppose I could swear on 'The Magus' by John Fowles, just because it's one of my favourite novels.

I believe in telling the truth because it is right. I think that's a much better reason to than 'because God says'.

I believe on that black book. the still best selling book in the world!

Yes, i swear on the Bible. I stand as a believer in Christ & he is my Saviour.

Unbelievers have also to swear on that same Bible , i've never heard or seen a case where it was not so. If they lie, whether they believe on it or not. It's still called committing purgery & will be punished for it.

Before the court system did away with Bible swearing before testimony, countless witnesses who took the stand swore on the Bible, regardless of their ethnic background, religion, social status. There were no complaints. Nowadays, everybody talks about their status or race or religion to get out of certain duties or civic obligations. Since the Bible's demise from the court room, there has been an increase in perjury testimony. Course, nobody sees that.

You have to go along with whatever they ask you to do because it is the "normal' thing to do. Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant, but you have to "go with the flow".
Swear on a Bible only works for true believers and not all are true believers.
So, once you swear on a bible you are telling the "truth", whether you lie or not.

Yes.

When you swear on a Bible (assuming you are a REAL Christian) you make a covenant with the Lord that you will fulfill whatever you're promising.

I suggest we start swearing to tell the truth by placing our hand on a box of Twinkies. I think we can all agree Twinkies are delicious and would swear to tell the truth for a tasty snack!
