Fact is that the Gregorian calendar is wrong, and we should be counting from 4 AD. Therefore we are in the year 2012, and oh lookie, it's the 21rst of December (aka D Day). Planets will be in formation people in exately eight hours from now. (incidentally, those of you who don't know already, the last time the planets were in this particular formation was 3114 BCE, the date of Noah's flood...). Eight hours before I ask, are the ancient Mayans right? Will something occur that will change life as we know it?

Discuss. :)

Eight hours from NOW is eight hours from NOW in any time zone (((YMMO))). And by the way it's ten hours from the time I posted this question, so we just might be in the clear on this one....

If the calendar should be counted from 4 A.D., then we would be in the year 2004, NOT 2012! Check your math. Maybe you meant 4 B.C.? In which case we would be heading INTO the year 2012 (this would be the end of 2011). {Remember, there is no year 0.}

And the Mayan calendar was calculated according to the present Gregorian calendar. Therefore, if we adjusted the Gregorian calendar, the Mayan calendar would be correspondingly adjusted, so that the end of their calendar would still be 4 years into the future.

However, it is interesting that the Mayan calendar would end so near the "time of the end." But then again, it may only be coincidence.

P.S. And as for your planetary alignment, what are you talking about? An excerpt:

Rare Planet Alignment in April and May [2002]

Several planets are assembling toward a rare alignment later this month, when five of them will crowd into a patch of sky small enough that all will be visible in a single glance. The setup will provide a planet-watching opportunity that won't be repeated for a century.

Even now, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn form a nearly straight line in the west each night. By late April, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Saturn will all bunch up in the western sky just after sunset, with bright Jupiter also nearby.

Three of the planets -- Venus, Saturn and Mars -- will crowd into an even smaller patch of sky in early May.

The five-planet array is a "standout" of the 21st Century, says Robert C. Victor, an astronomer who volunteers at the Abrams Planetarium of Michigan State University and has specialized in predicting and observing unusual configurations of the planets for nearly four decades.

Victor said there will be only three other chances in the coming 100 years to see five planets so tightly grouped, in September 2040, July 2060, and November 2100.

The world is going to end on 2012. The mayans predicted this They were a ancient civilizaton that were myseriously wiped out, but before they died they left stones with engraved marks saying the end of the world. They were so advanced that they predicted weather weeks before it happend. --------------------------------------... All those people who believe the the holy bible should read up on this. The cure for aids has been found, by 2 people. One saying science, the other took DMT a drug, which that other person said spirits told him the cure for aids. That in the bible, it said demons will preform mircles in the end of times. --------------------------------------... All is explained here on this site, make good use of it. Some scientists say it wont be a biblical death. Some say a supernova will occour on 2012. With the high rays mutating us and the rest will die from hunger because everything will die. Plants and animals. Other high class scientists are saying a planet will clash into us. I'd rather have that. Intstead of high mutation. Lots of sites are reporting that bees are disappearing, something like 40-60% in the US, with similar numbers in Europe. Many reports include a supposed quote from Albert Einstein - if the bees disappear, man would have only four years of life left. This is of interest to 2012 folk, because if all the bees disappeared in late 2008, that would match Einstein's prophecy with that of the ancient Mayans!

We are not in the year 2012. The transposition of the Mayan calendar that foresees the end of their calendar is factored against the Gregorian timeline, whether Dionysius Exeguus got it right or not.

We are in the year 2007. The Mayan calendar ends in 2012, Gregorian time.

You can't base Mayan dates off another calendar. Following your logic, the next galactic cycle will still occur on December 21, 2018.

If the sky is falling, should we worry about your typing and grammar? Heaven forbid the Gregorian calendar is wrong? I think I will go get me some KFC and a bottle of good wine before the midnight hour. Thanks for the warning.

Why do you presume it's 8 hours from your time zone? What if it's from mine? What if it's from the Mayan one? What if it's from the Roman one? (roman calendar)... huh? ;)

If we're counting from 4 AD, wouldn't that mean we subtract 4 years, meaning it'd be 2004?

Or have I completely brainfarted all over your question?
