I was thinking one of the following. Preferable under $400. Canon lens only (no third party), I don't need IS, and I'm shooting landscapes, people, etc. Nothing too specialized.

Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM
Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM
Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

Are there any other lenses that might be good??

Of those three I own the top two and would recommend the
28-105mm. Was my everyday lens for two years on my A2Eand my Rebel XT. Come to think of it, still on my A2E. Should work very well for what you describe as your needs. Good range from 28-105 and pretty flexible.

However, the 28-135mm IS has become my everyday lens, and I love it. I realize you said no IS, but I would encourage you to take a long hard look at it before making a decision. Being able to hand hold with the IS is a huge advantage.

No matter which one you choose, have fun and enjoy.

The 18 to fifty 5 mm Canon lens is a lengthy way extra ideal for the image taking possibilities you're describing and probably interior your lens funds. it truly is the position i might want to commence. on your Canon XT I, the lenses you've listed are all interior the traditional to telephoto determination that are good for taking pictures of human beings yet in no way ideal for landscapes.

I think the 28 - 105 would be a good everyday choice. I used that focal length a lot when I was shooting 35mm.
