So why are Christians getting so upset about people calling the Christmas tree a Holiday tree? The Christmas tree was originally used to celebrate the winter solstice in pagan religions, not Christmas. It was after Constantinople merged the two celebrations that the tree became a symbol for Christmas. Funny how people don't do their research.

He didn't create them, he just merged the pagan celebration of the winter solstice which had the tree (sp?) and the Christmas celebration. Maybe I worded the question wrong. I personally call it a Christmas tree (and some 4 letter words when the lights don't work)....

And I am blushing at my error in Constatinople. That would be the place not the person.

"It was after Constantinople merged the two celebrations ."

This makes me laugh for two reason 1. Constantiople was not a person but a city. 2. Your history is all wrong, "Christmas trees" were orginally outlawed in Christianity. Funny how your research is so bad when you accuse other people of the same thing.

actually the tree did not come into play in Christmas until the 1600's (by protestants after the reformation, Martin Luther was said to have been the first), it was not used in Christianity before that (all such things were forbidden lest Paganism be confused with Christianity) take alook at Christmas pictures (paintings obviously) from the early middle ages, very stark.

I can careless what anyone wants to call it.

EDIT: I never said Christmas trees weren;t pagan. They were/are. What I said was "constantiople" did not initiate them. They came much later. Read the article under origin.

EDIT II: It was Luther who merged them and the Queen of England who made them a part of popular Chirstian Culture. Romans didn;t use trees in their celebrations it was the Germanic/slavic cultures that did. The were not converted until the late 800s.

Its because political correctness is going too far. Its been a Christmas tree for a long time, and its association is with Christmas. Its angering because these special interest minority groups are trying to change, um I guess the western life? (not sure how to word exactly what im tryin to say) Anyways the thing is, noone could try and change something about eid, or anything. Muslims would never have that, So why do people who celebrate Christmas have to change everything to accomodate people who dont celebrate? Its a holiday and symbol that has been around for a long time and people should leave it alone.

The tree thing is as OLD as 600 BC, a "vain" Babylonian custom of "brutish fools", according to Jeremiah 10 in Bible.

oops. that's Constantine that marched Christianity across indigenous Pagan lands forcing conversions as he went.

"Christmas trees" started when Germanic Pagans could no loner decorate their Solstice trees without being persecuted so they started hiding and decorating them inside their domiciles.

In any case, Holiday means "Holy Day", so all the feinting and gasping is particularly amusing.
