Like anything else, there's an art to self-deprecating humor that works...many attempt it with little success, while others use it to put people "at ease". One reflects a matter of style, while the other reflects a pattern of insecurity.

Hi...... yes it would be, VERY MUCH.. Very embarassing not to say the least.. I'de want a much more mature match than just putting up with this.. I hope this isn't a common accurance in your life, you gotta have some standards...Sounds more like someone quite needy, another annoying quality.. So far your going down hill on this one..
To answer your question directly if depreciatory humor wears off after a while...yes it does, it's called breaking up and never speaking to him again, meanwhile finding yourself a more qualified catch...

Of course, they can make fat jokes letting every one else know that they are AWARE that THEY are overweight---so no one else will say it to them--so many are like this! A kind of preventative protection and shield.
They are usually not able to accept a compliment--and this makes it tough to surmount as a friend.
I don't know if it goes away on it's own. It usually takes work with a therapist of some kind.
One male comedian has made a fine career, sorry I don't recall his name, young heavyset blond kid in his 30's maybe, his humor is all based out of the pain of his father berating him all his life--somebody Anderson, I think--the stage is not large enough for all of us to air our personal hurts this way, I fear, and facing them takes a courage that does not come in a cereal box with Tony the Tiger!
If it has little chance of improvement now, can you see yourself with this person 20 years down the road having heard this over and over and over again??
something to think about and consider for long term relationships.
Good Luck.

Yes, if I see that this is a pattern, it is a red flag for me that this person is going to need a lot of reassurance and attention. I know my own personality, and this would be very draining for me. This person would seem to have some self-esteem issues. Some people probably find it cute and down-to-earth, but to me it's a sign of neediness.

Yes, it gets old fast. An occasional joke isn't an issue (and sometimes funny) but when it's clear they are quite insecure and many comments are like that, I wonder why I'm with them.
