I have to make a presentation on the brain for biology class, and I need it to be really good. Everyone had to pick a number from a bag, and I got the last number-- 16. She is going to grade the presentations harder as they go, so mine has to be the BEST for a good grade. *shiver* She requires us to have something to test their knowledge at the end of the presentation, also. Any ideas will be helpful!
Thanks-

~Lydia

there are a few interesting routes you could go:

-the brain from the evolutionary perspective: starting with the limbic system and working your way out
-the senses are always a crowd pleaser
-something about nerve cells and impulses
-psychology of the brain- Freudian theory, diseases, etc.

ok. for the first part of the presentation you need an attention getter. usually that requires some kind of innovative way to get the class to quiet down, pay attention, and actually get interested. a suggestion can be finding some jello mixed playdoe and put a little in some brown lunch sacs. And pass them around. tell them not to open it until everyone can open it at the same time. then you can tell them to put their hands in it without looking at the same time and say.. and that is what the brain feels like ladies and gentlemen. ... and start your presentation off from there. (of course you may want to give them some wipes too after touching the goop) this works well for highschool kids. but if you are going for something more serious... try something subtle to get attention like getting those things that make you look bald over your head. drawing a brain on it. and wearing a hat over it. and then when you walk on front, take off the hat and introduce your presentation. take it off after you get a good laugh from the crowd or else they won't be able to focus.

at the end to test their knowledge, you can start off with those fun iq test games. and mix in some question from your presentation. from past experience having candy as incentive does work sometimes depending on how bonded your class is.

You can involve humours ..I think brain has two regions left and the right ..one acts to the reflex the other acts slowly after well planning...you could add some humorous stories and match with the functioning of the brain..it will be too good..for example if someone is comming with a knife to hurt you ..your immediate action would be to stop it...you could relate this to the brain stem region..if some one is talking and losing control you can wait , relax and answer them not making the situation worse ..this is the left brain functionality..similarly the cerbellum maintains the balance..you could include some drunkard story for this..Hope these examples help..

Use PowerPoint to put together a Great Presentation! Use graphics, videos, animation and music to enhance the information you give.

Include a multiple choice, true/false test for the class to take.

End with a great conclusion of the brain and a question that all can ponder.

You could have a dummy and pretend to cut it's head open then show the brain.. it'd be so cool.. and have some jokes go to www.yahooligan.com/jokes or whatever and you could go to body jokes or something.. maybe even google.
