You should allow about 8-10 months to do this ambitious walk properly. Some useful sources of information are the books: 'The Kingdom by the Sea' by Paul Theroux based on his walk around the British coastline undertaken 25 years ago - the book is still very relevant. The 3 guides called 'The South West Coast Path' published by Aurum Press - These describe in detail the coastal path around the counties of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall which are all a National Trail. 'The Sea on our Left' by Shally Hunt which describes a couple's 10 month walk around the British coastline. There is also a BBC television series called 'Coast' with Nicholas Crane and others which should be available on DVD shortly
if it isn't already. The British Tourist Authority and their local offices would also be a good source of information. There will be places where you have to divert inland for short distances, but the majority of the British coastline is open and traversed by public paths.

I reckon a year, because theres a lot of islands to do.
It would depend on how close to the coast you want to be, where you plan on staying, whether or not you have a support team. And how much it would cost you.

ummm... ask the british forum! i'm wondering why anyone would want to do this...

i guess if this was a serious question it would depend on how quickly the person walks, how much they are carrying, etc
