Amelia is correct, except that the expansion does not fix game bugs. An update was released at the same time that fixed game issues, so you do not need to spend $8 just to fix the game.
The expansion is totally worth it. Like Steve said, it adds a new depth to the game. The dropship is basically like an air tank. It unleashes a crap load of ammo, and if you pick people up they can man missile turrets. With a full ship you can release like 25 missiles at once. It can also pick up vehicles, which is extremely useful in CTF matches (the flag carrier can get in a truck/tank and the dropship can carry him across the map).

I downloaded and played this last night for about 5 hours. It's a great new level and has a little bit different feel to it. it has tunnels and multiple layers to fight on and is set at night. It is a massive map and takes a while to cover the whole thing.
With the addition of the new Drop Ship, it does change the game's stratgy a little. I you decide to take one down, it will take about 6 direct hits from a rocket launcer. The firepower that this thing has is unmatched and fires at an enormus rate of power and area.
The price is set just right. Not a penny more or less.
It's good stuff, download and jump in.

my boyfriend actually called me to tell me about the update, he thinks it's awesome.
it includes a:
-new 8 person shipping plane
-and a new map.
it probably fixes general bugs too and stuff, i'm not a huge war hawk fan. but he was very excited about this update, and he's really awesome at war hawk. so basically it's worth it
