"No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God.” -George Bush

Let me guess, all the atheists are now gona say George is a douche bag or that he’s f-en this and that right? Well he maybe a bum but that is the smartest thing he has said as President.

Is this like Bizarro world, or something - where things are the exact opposite of the real world?

You actually think this is the smartest thing Bush ever said? That he discounts and disenfranchises an entire segment of the population (in general the most educated portion) because he doesn't agree with their beliefs?

Personally, I think the smartest thing Bush ever said was when he nicknamed Rove "Turdblossom".

UPDATE:

OK, the funniest thing I've ever seen is everyone jumping on you to tell you that it was Bush Sr and not Bush Jr when there is no point in your question that you even suggest that it was Jr.

I guess people just assume that stupid sayings are automatically attributable to Dubya.

lol, so you believe that atheists shouldn't be treated as human beings. Yeah let's just chain them up and make them do all the hard work for us. that makes sense. then the world would be a better place. Did i just time travel back to the 1800's?
I'm not calling George Bush anything, most intelligent people realize exactly what he is. You on the other hand i have some colorful metaphors for.

It was his dad, but that's besides the point.

You obviously live in a small world, eh? This is a world wide web. I'm Dutch. I don't even live in the "one nation under God", not am I a patriot.

I am an atheist though. And a much better human being than any of the Bush clan.

Dutchess is right, that was Bush the elder. It is not smart at all. I would expect a president to understand that freedom of religion means freedom from religion as well. I would also expect him to realize that in a democracy, belief in a supreme being should not be a prerequisite for citizenship.

Papa Bush and all who agree with this statement demonstrate only that they have contempt for freedom and democracy.

That would be discrimination, so basically you are promoting the idea that if you arn't religious then you arn't an american citizen? I will tell you one thing, I am agnostic, and I disagree with what our country is doing currently, but I am an American, and I hope that we can get this nation out of the hands of people who think that they are morally and spiritually superior to everyone else simply because of thier religion and skin color. And start to be the world force that we could be if we would get our heads out of our A$$es.

So I guess all the atheists in the rest of the world are safe at least. Just another reason to be glad I'm not American. Who would want to be associated with a 'world leader' ignorant enough to utter such nonsense. I guess all the atheists who died fighting for their country in every battle the U.S. military has fought in were fighting for the wrong side.

There seems to be some confusion here. Which Bush is the bum, and which one is the douche bag?

Erm. Who wants to be one nation under God, just like Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, etc? Secularism for me every time.

Sweetie that was his dad.
He allegedly made the comment when he was Vice-President and campaigning for the Presidency. The statement was heard by one journalist without other verification. I have been informed that the details given by the journalist may have changed over time.
