I do think that jail isn't what it should be. I mean these people adults and kids...do something wrong...and then they get shelter, warmth, food, something to drink, clothing. That isn't punishment!! And the taxpayers have to pay for this crap?! Bunch of nonsense!!

You should take a tour of your local jail. Believe me, it is not a party. The jail has strict rules. The inmates are not there for a vacation. They always complain about the food and the clothing they have to wear. The officers tell them when they are going to eat, when to take a shower, what to watch on t.v. They get searched all the time. Nothing is privet. They shower and use the rest room in other inmates view. Its not fun. I have been a correction officer for 10 years.

Its Not A System To Be Mimicked. Though Lets Not Make It Out To Be A Nice Place To Visit. Unless You Are In The Minority,And A Member Of A Gang, Jail Is No Place For You. The Weak Are Preyed On. Extortion, Theft, Violence And Rape Are Dealt With On A Daily Basis. Also You Eat What The State Or County Serves, Get Up When They Say, The Word Freedom Does Not Apply. Whats Nonsense Is Thinking Inmates Are Getting It Easy. Maybe easier Than 50 Years Ago.

Modern crime fighting techniques and forensics have pretty much alleviated cases of "false imprisonment" yet some continue to dispell truth with situations occurring fifty years ago!

Jail should be punishment! Sheriff Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, provides the basic necessities for his inmates but refuses to extend those extra's that some think are required.

You want food...he feeds you balogna sandwiches. You want shelter...he places you in a tent on a army cot stating that if our soldiers can live in the same environment fighting for our freedoms...they can too!

Television in jail was the topic of a recent law suit. Sheriff Arpaio lost the law suit and provided television to the inmates. They get to watch the Disney Channel and the Weather Channel. The Disney Channel for it's wholesome and non-violent style of television and the Weather Channel so his chaingangs will know how hot the next day will be!

Jail is HELL - I'd like to see how you'd react to that kind of life!

Already the anger level of people who get out is pretty high, so if you increase the pain on the incarcerated you can expect even MORE anger against the system.

Yes, the taxpayers have to pay for "this crap" and they also have to pay for the police (usually not enough, IMO) to find them and put them there too. It's the price we pay for our attempts to keep an orderly society.

If you don't like paying taxes to preserve your softie lifestyle, then maybe you'd like to try the anarchy of one of the many little countries on the African continent - maybe we could take up a collection for a one-way ticket to send you there.

Maricopa County AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio is my hero !!!! If it wasn't so blasted hot down there I'd go there and work for him for free. Criminals are treated better then they ever should be, they get 3 "Hots" & a Cot everyday plus a phone to use and free heat / electricity / cable tv, unlimited mail service including stamps clean clothes and warm bedding etc. etc. etc. and who pays for it ? WE DO ! Your tax dollors at work. Many people don't have half that in there homes and find it hard to feed their families but criminals don't give a sh!t because they have it made. It not like I'm unforgiving, People make mistakes but if your a second offender or more I have NO respect for you.

HAve you ever been in jail? It is cold, the food is minimal and poor, clothing is jumpsuit only, no socks or underwear, and the inmates have to pay for everything else or depend on family or friends to help.
I can tell you this, it is punishment for teh friends and family, that is for sure.

it needs an enema. bush just pardoned a guy whod been in jail48 yrs for interstate trans. of a motor vehicle. another 45 yrs for mail theft. 2 others, 44 and 38 yrs for selling moonshine. how many more are we supporting like that. thats the nonsense. jails are full of people who shouldnt be there, and others are out that should be in. everytime a sexual offender repeats the crime, think of these 4, and why they were in there.

What you say is a defiance to the law; we have HUMAN RIGHTS under the LAW. So if you'll planning to do what your thinking is right then ammnend the custitution and remove the HUMAN RIGHTS and lets see what will happen.

No she has a point. I personally like what that sheriff is doing in AZ. Tent, green bologna sandwiches, stripes and pink underwear. No A/C, TV, or smokes for them

What would you have us do with offenders? Chain them in a cement room and starve them to death? Luckily we have a constitution to protect prisoners from people with your mindset. That's why our founding fathers put the "cruel and unusual" punishment in there.
