How can the religious wingnuts be pacified while teaching our children honest, useful science (or is this even possible)?

I live in the bible belt, and fear my kids won't get the quality science education I did (I was even taught natural selection in the church school I attended for a few years).

It's not possible. You need to monitor their education; even if the school standards are strictly scientific, individual wingnuts slip into departments like "stealth" candidates, and spread their nonsense quietly.

The nature of public education is that it has no standards other than whatever is imposed upon it by state or federal bureaucracies. If anti-science religious fundamentalists get appointed to the Department of Education, then you are pretty much up the creek if you attend public school.

Freedom of choice in education is paramount to surmounting this issue. Yes some schools will teach science-based natural history, while others will teach religion-based creationism.

But if I were an employer choosing to hire someone based on one or the other type education, I would choose the person who received the more science-based education particularly if it has relevance to the specific job (like a biologist). Just my personal choice, ymmv.

And yet if the MARKETPLACE overall rejected one over the other we would have to deal with it honestly, and not then make it a government mandate to only be taught one or the other school of thought. And it would be almost as wrong to demand that both ideas be taught at the same institutions.

The truth will set us free. And freedom will guide us true.

The God Yahweh and I are working on that problem as we speak. We have a new science standard that should not take long to replace Charles Darwin's false scientific teachings that have been followed way too long by our public and private schools.

Well, rocky. They could begin by actually teaching science. And, leave Darwinian philosophy as an elective.
