The police in Florida get their jollies by tazering people. Some have been tazered by two different cops at the same time. Many have died in Florida and I am sure elsewhere due to this torture method.

No Matter What The Police Use Against Offenders, There Is Always Going To Be Scrutiny. Its Easy To Armchair Quarterback What Police Do. Unless You've Ever Been In Their Shoes You Cant Possibly Fathom The Job. We All Enjoy The Very Freedom We Are Provided In This Country And Some Will From Time To Time Question The Way Its Provided. Id Rather Be Tazered Or Have A Family Member Or Friend Tazered Than Shot.

not in the least. Don't want to get tasered? Don't commit crimes, don't resist arrrest and obey all commands from a police officer, as you are required by law to do. The street is not the time, nor the place to "debate" the police (ala "don't tase me bro" man). Resisting arrrest or failure to comply with a lawful order will be met with escalating force, not the debate team.
Tasers are considered "less than lethal" and many times are used when the officer has every right to use deadly physical force (aka shooting a person). There have been numerous cases when an officer has used a taser ( or other less than lethal weapons) instead of shooting someone. I'm sure that person agrees the taser was better than a bullet in the chest. Many of these people have psych issues or are high on drugs or alcohol and after the fact are greatful for the officer saving their lives.
Cops are not tasering random civilians and in the hands of a properly trained officer is an excellent weapon. People just don't like it casue it hurts like hell. Many also comply during their next police interaction, as well.
Ask "Don't tase me bro" if the next time a cop attempts to take him into custody if he will fight. I bet he says no.

Not in the least bit. Trooper sums it up perfectly! This topic has been beat to death and no one has yet shown let alone prove that a Taser can kill someone. So it's become a moot point until the next sensationalized news story comes out where a Taser was involved.

Jenny-Tasers are new technology that has proven to be an effective alternative to certain situations where deadly force was the only alternative.

Not-to serious-So what other training do I need? Should I just thump on someone the next time someone physically attacks me? Because I can guarantee that person will be going to the Hospital with an injury that will hurt more and longer than what a Taser does.

Statistically, if an officer and a subject go hands on, there is a 55% chance the suspect will be injured, and a 45% chance the officer will get hurt.

Baton use, 80% chance the suspect goes to the hospital.

Taser: less than 2% of supects injured, normally from the fall. That means 98% of the time, there is no injury.

Everyone has an opinion on tasers, and I'll save mine, and just let the above facts speak for themselves.

One final fact: there is not one single death attributed to the taser alone... there is ALWAYS some other factor. KC V brings up an exellent point that cannot be argued... with the thousands of officers being tased, not one had ever died, nor have I ever even heard of one being injured.

Not at all...

It is much better than the alternative use of deadly force... And imagine a suspect is charging at an Officer. That Officer has two choices, take out their club or take out their gun. If you take out the club, the Officer might get really injured. If the Officer takes out the gun, the Suspect could get really, Killed...

The Taser is the Middle and probably the best choice.

Now because of some recent events, the media backlash is getting worse. But Try one day on the streets being a Police Officer... They need all the help they can get...

I agree with trooper3. The more options a police officer has the safer both the officer and the subject are going to be. And having experienced both a tazer and pepper spray, I would rather be tazed any day.

For the misinformed in here, tasers do not have to be used only in deadly force situations, that's what the firearm is for but assured it makes it safer for everyone involved versus 900ft persecond hollowpoints blowing out your internal organs til you stop And before Tasers it was using impact weapons to either crush your bones around your elbows or your knee or beat your meaty portions like a dog. So you pick the tool you would rather seen used on you when you resist an officer and see how good a taser looks compared to the other options.

Better Tazers then guns

No, The police must have 'non-deadly' means of protection and subjugation. We have taken away their billy clubs, their mag lights and now we are attempting to take away the taser.

In most cases the taser is non-Lethal, their will always be exceptions. Just like in most case guns are lethal, there will always be exceptions.

The Taser has been proven effective, and the number of lethal encounters with law enforcement has decreased since the implementation of the taser.

Not at all..... it gives them a non letal way of subdueing a dangerous suspect....while there have been deaths most involve drug use. I dont feel officers are required to attempt to physically subdue someone and risk injury......if suspects simply comply, the tazer doesnt get used
