Sorry, I know how much we all hate the "what should I name my dog" questions, but I'm about to contribute to the problem.
We're getting another Papillon tonight- it's Louie's half brother :)
I already have a few names that I'm considering but there's one that I'm in love with....there's a slight problem with it though. I really like the name "Diamond" but the puppy is a boy- does Diamond have too much of a feminine connotation?
I'm not asking for suggestions for names or whether or not I should name the puppy Diamond. I just want to know if you think it's too girly for a boy dog. If you met a boy dog named Diamond, would you find it strange?

Haha...I'm not really concerned about people actually mistaking him for a girl, since Louie gets called a girl all the time. We've gotten somewhat used to people thinking our Husky is a boy because she's tough looking (though beautiful) and that Louie is a girl because he has long fur and a flowing tail.
The other names that were on my mind are:
Bradley (connects to the story of why we named Louie)
Skipper (We like the name in itself and it also happens to be a kind of butterfly, AKA Papillon.)
Remi (French name for a French breed)
Eddie (Just thought Louie and Eddie sounded cute together)

But it is your Pup and your decision

If you're in love with it, go for it! It does sound like a girl's name to me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, Ashley was most definitely a BOY's name until the Victorians started giving their little girls boyish names. Now you almost never hear about a boy named Ashley. And really, when you really think about it, diamonds are just rocks (which are totally gender neutral). It wouldn't really be any different from calling him Slate or Granite or Obsidian, and none of those strike me as girl's names.
I understand having people mistake your dog's genders. My male shepherd is very leggy, long and lanky and, quite frankly, fine-boned for a shepherd. My female on the other hand is very stocky and compact. Even though my male is bigger, people still get their genders backwards.

This may sound stupid, so I'll apologize in advance also. We've got two Paps, Sophie and Abby, and we have already decided that we are going to name any future Paps after alcoholic drinks...probably liqueurs (which are also French), "Brandy", etc. The reason behind this....these dogs are such great lickers..or ."liquors"...yes, it's a stupid pun, but these dogs are so cute, and I swear, I always ask the Vet if it's time to have the tongue changed...it's got to be worn out.
Regarding "Diamond"...if the dog has lots of black in him, you could call him "Coal"....which is really a diamond in the rough!
And remember, it's up to you what you want to name your Pap....I've seen some very strange names, on some very adorable dogs.
Happy Holidays

It's a little fruity for a boy, but I have heard stranger things. If you like the name, then go for it, you are the one that has to live with it.
If I met a boy dog named diamond, I wouldn't think much of it.

Diamond is a great name! Diamond Dave!
But, then again, I just went to the Van Halen Reunion Tour concert not to long ago, and I loved it!!
I'm all for unique names, and no, its not strange for a boy dog name to me! One of my boy dogs is named Magglio - for the best player in the Majors! We call him Maggs.

Not just feminine, but a bit akward too - I like the idea some gave of Philippe, goes with Lois just fine - French kings.
If you do name him Diamond, don't call him Di for short - how about Monty then?
Tremont, Lemont, ?

A little bit - I think it's an adorable name for a female, but not so much for a male.
ADDED: A slight variation of the name, as Animal Artwork stated in her answer, would work I think

I actually named one of my boy puppies Diamond, because he had a diamond on his neck, but his new owners changed his name to Morton.
You could always call him Neil

To me Diamond is more of a male name than a female name.
"Diamond Jim Brady"
Duane "Diamond" Morrison
etc
