I don't believe so, we need to up it a little bit and make sure that what they need is what they have. Got to keep them safe.

Your figures are wrong. Defense spending is only 19% of our total budget. In my opinion, however, it should be higher to ensure our troops have the best equipment and better benefits. I suggest that congressman get a pay cut to cover the difference since they waste so much time on petty disputes.

The military is a vital part of this country and to cut the budget to such a low number would be disasterous. Administrations in the past did that and it created a situation where vets were cared for less than they are now, military housing were slums...like many are now, most military families qualified for public aide..don't know if that is still the case.

I grew up in the military and I could tell you story after story of inadequacies in the life.

The hospitals are sub par.

My family qualified for free lunch and we lived in a trailer.

When my dad retired they cut his military benefits that were promised to him on more than one occasion. My mom now gets $250 a month from the military since my dad died. That pays her electric bill and phone bill.

The military didn't cover any of his cancer treatments because they had switched to Champus for retirees. Good thing he had another job with insurance when he was diagnosed.

He signed up and agreed to terms of his service in 1965. In that time I can't begin to tell you how many times his benefits and terms were changed by administrations cutting costs.

The military is such an easy target for most liberals in Washington because they sign their rights away when they join. They don't have a say so and they can't march, picket, or go on strike.

You cut the budget for welfare and all hell breaks lose. And why is that...a good majority of those collecting are able bodied Americans that are too lazy to get off their duff and work. I know this from working closely with welfare recipients in an are that was dominated by them. I only knew a handful that really needed the assistance out of thousands.

How about we cut all the pork in Washington? How about we end the retirement benefits of those in Washington that only need serve one term to qualify for a lifetime of benefits better than any other institution in this country. How about we cut some of this funding for many of the ridiculous research projects being run around the country on the governments dime? How about we cut most of the aide being given out to foreign countries including Palestine that is run by Hamas, a terrorist organization? How about we collect all the back taxes by those serving in Washington? Did you know they are some of the worst tax evaders in the country? And how about we make all those in Washington that have written rubber checks against the government pay up?

I say we stop attacking and demanding more for less from those of us that are the most patriotic, courageous, and loyal in our country. It's pretty pathetic to ask more of that group when they already serve for so little.

Thier should never be legal caps for Defense spending. Let our adversaries guess what we can spend, not know what we can spend.

Nothing should be capped. This is almost a democracy, and if people are unhappy with spending, they should write to their congress men and women and express their concerns.

Not really. I'm not a war monger but while we are fighting I would like our troops to actually have what they need and not have to depend on the nearest rock to keep from getting beheaded.

Mixed feelings.

Troops need the adequate supplies, medical benefits, ect.

If we cap it, then the troops will suffer, not the fatcat private organizations who will still continue to get their money.

If we don't, we continue to allow the Bush Administration to write themselves these "blank checks" for themselves and their cronies at the expense of the American tax payer.

There needs to be some legislation designating proportions of the allowable spending, say limiting 25% to private entities so the temptation to undermine our own troops will be diminished.

Just a bunch of political posturing. Hard to count a win on either side besides the fatcats and cronies. They will win regardless......
