I recently bought a house and it has a satellite dish already installed. I dont have a subscription to satellite nor do I intend on getting one, as I don't watch much TV.
I was told that I can get a FTA box and hook it up to the dish that is already in place, and pick up satellite signals that way, without paying a subscription charge.
Will this work? Is there a certain type of box that I need to get (I live in Canada)? Do I need one for each TV in the house, or can I run cable from one box to multiple TVs? And will I have to reset something in it once in a while (get a new card or something) or will it just... work? I have a custom media-center type computer, so is it possible to hook up the signal to my PC?

I really don't know anything about satellite TV, so any help I can get is much appreciated.

>I was told that I can get a FTA box

Yes there are such boxes, but the kinds of channels you can receive (legally) for free tend to be unusual.

>hook it up to the dish that is already in place

That depends on the dish. Unless it was used for FTA before, probably not.

>Do I need one for each TV in the house,

If you want to watch different channels on the TVs.

>And will I have to reset something in it once in a while (get a new card or something) or will it just... work?

That sounds like an illegal hacked box to steal from a pay satellite service. That is not what I'm describing.

If you look around at the web sites that are linked to below, you can find out more info than I know.

There is free legal satellite TV in North America. Typically you need a larger dish than the paid services and the kind of programming you can get tends to be PBS, foreign language, religious, NASA TV.... Stuff that is not encrypted.

The other 2 answers are pretty definitive.
I would suggest that to someone who isn't that interested in watching TV, the risk far outweighs the benefit.
An alternative might be to contact the satellite provider and get yourself set up with a line of credit and watch pay for view selections that really catch your fancy.
If they don't want to play, subscribe for a month and disconnect as you see fit. Since there are usually at least 2 providers you tell one you are switching.
As a subscriber, (Direct TV), I can tell you 98% of what is on at any given time is not worth watching.

The subwoofer creates its sound through shifting forward and backward. Deeper bass notes and better volumes require it to head extra. There are limits to how a procedures it could circulate, although, without harm to the sub. The air trapped interior a subwoofer field helps administration the action of the cone. as a results of fact the cone strikes in or out, the changing air tension interior the field resists the action of the sub. The extra desirable the cone strikes from its relax place, the extra desirable the air tension forcing it decrease back to center. Subwoofer manufacturers are in line with this air tension while they stick to a ability score to the sub. in case you employ a extra robust field than reported, the air tension protecting the sub decrease than administration would be lessened. in case you do not use a field in any respect, then employing too plenty ability to the sub ought to tension it previous its mechanical obstacles, inflicting harm to the suspension. once you're employing a ported field, then bass notes decrease than the port frequency will reason the sub to react as though it is not in a field in any respect. that's why subs in ported bins could be used with subsonic filters, to maintain the backside frequencies from accomplishing the subwoofer. Sealed bins have not got this weak point. some subs are designed for loose air use. they have a bent to have a extra suitable, stiffer suspension, so they don't require the trapped air to damp the cone flow. although, the stiffer suspension potential they don't enable as plenty expedition and frequently won't play as deep bass as a sub in an enclosure. As for basically-powering, it would not harm subwoofers in any way. if your amplifier/subwoofer mixture can provide the quantity you %, without producing serious distortion, then it is not proper if the amp ability score isn't as severe as a results of fact the sub's ability score.
