I remember the crash that made the restrictor plates come into play. 1987 Talladega, Bobby Allison blows a right rear tire, the car comes around back to front, lifts into the air, the right into the catch fence just before the start-finish line, ripping out a huge section of the fence and sending debris flying into the stands. Then, other cars coming along started blowing tires on what was left of the fence lying on the track and began spinning and one of them hit Allison's car again after it had stopped. This was also the first time I saw the RED flag come out immediately. (Back in those days, you almost never saw a red flag, maybe once or twice a year)
The most violent and scary wreck however, had to be Geoff Bodine's crash at Daytona in the truck race. TV coverage immediately went to commercial because of the severity of that crash. They refused to replay that one at all during the broadcast because they were almost sure that Geoff had serious or fatal injuries and there were probably injuries or burns to the spectators in the stands.
I'll attach links to both of those for ya.

Mine is the 2002 Busch Series race at Talledega. It has been deemedd the biggest crash in the modern NASCAR era. Only 13 cars were not involved in the crash.

For as insignificant of a hit as it looked, the most memorable restrictor plate crash that I've seen is when Dale Earnhardt died. That was the first race I'd watched in maybe ten years, just to watch a man die on television.

The one I remember the most is the 2001 Daytona 500 (AND NOT BECAUSE SR. DIED ON THE LAST LAP). Tony Stewart went flying through the air in mid pack and of all the cars to land on he landed on his team-mate Bobby Labonte. What a Daytona 500 that was for Joe Gibbs Racing.

1996- Diehard 500 at Talladega. Earnhardt and Sterling Marlin made contact, sending both head on into the trioval wall. Earnhardts car flipped over and was hit in the roof several times. Earnhardt walked away, but ached all year long.

1996- 2nd race at Talladega. Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin make contact, sending Martin down the track. Ricky Craven gets into it, and his car catapults up into the air, gets into the catch fence, then rolls down the banking.

1998-Diehard 500 at Talladega, almost a mirror-image wreck from 1996, ward burton gets into Dale Earnhardt, who then comes down the track, and taps Bill Elliott. Both go head on into the trioval wall, with Elliott's car partially on fire.

2001 Daytona 500- the big one that took out 20 cars. Tony Stewart flying through the air and landing on top of Bobby Labonte.

The 2001 Daytona 500
Not the crash that took Dale Sr.`s life But the one 20 laps before that rung Tony Stewart`s bell he went a few hundred
feet on top of Robby Gordon`s car. took out his teammate
He tore up everything Joe Gibbs owned that day.

Daytona 500 2001 not to take anything away from Seniors wreck that killed him, but the one that Tony Stewart had in the same race was a wild ride.
