Why are virgins so revered and desired?
Personally, give me a girl who knows her way around a little, any time over a virgin.

The preference of virgins is based in domination and control (and also rape). Revering or desiring a virgin is all about taken something (in this case purity) from someone else. Personally, I'm with you guy. I'd rather be ridden by a professional freestyle Extreme sports BMX racer than someone who has never taken the training wheels off of their scooter!

It is probably very ancient and biological in origin. Those that were virgins were less likely to communicate some disease. They were younger and more likely to survive or give and survive birth. Also on a hormonal level women seem to have a strong attachment to their first so the virgins were more likely to stick around and help forage for food and raise the child. I agree though virgins suck in bed. (pun inteaded)

Two reasons: There was no other way to determine paternity, so men wanted to be sure they weren't raising another's child and STDs were more common in areas where religion that encourage people to be chaste originated.

It seems to go hand in hand with most of the patriarchal, monotheistic attitudes about sexuality; insecurity and terror of women.
