Going in open general is the sure fire way to get put into a job you don't want. However, you may get lucky. FYI, the AF does not have "MP's" (it's Security Police/Security Forces and anyone who uses the term MP has NEVER been in the AF because even in the 60's they were not called MP's..they were called Air Police). It just really depends on your ASVAB scores and where they need you. Since you have a criminal waiver, you can be assured that you won't be doing anything that requires a security clearance (command post, intel, logistics/nucs, com-SIPRNET ops), but you may end up in a medical field, which wouldn't be so bad....talk to your recruiter and see if you can get a contracted job... tell them what YOU want and find out what you're qualified for).

I would guess you would be placed in services. Those are the cooks, people who run the base hotel, base gym and sometimes the base golf course. I wish I had gone in gemeral because they sometimes have some cool jobs. I have known people who have gotten fire protection, weather things like that. Most people end up in services though.

Don't listen to those people who are telling you that open general is not what you want to do. They donn't know what they are talking about, I bet they have never been in the Air Force or even the military for that matter. Also don't listen to a_wood80 because with a criminal waiver you can not be administration, you need a security clearence for that. Don't worry open general can have some good jobs in it.

Ok your going in as a General???????????? You sure about that? more like an Airman to me, anyways I am not sure how the AF works as far as how your jobs are picked .. with the Army passing ASVAB with nothing less of a 31 and depending on your GT score we get a print out of all jobs we qualify for ... this is funny though sorry have to laugh cant help it...a General.. besides that the AF does not have MP'S.. they have SP's... its a difference...

Merry Christmas hope you dont get beat up too bad for this question...

Why don't you go into the Army and get the chance to choose your job? Oh, and it's written in your contract before you even sign it. Oh, and did I mention you get to pick your own job? On top of that the Army offers you up to $40,000 signing bonus, up to $73,836 for college and also $4500 a year for tuition assistance. You do the math. Don't let your future be decided by someone else....

BTW, it's SF in the Air Force. But, there are a multitude of jobs. I would never go in "general" anything! I understand you might feel lucky to get in with the waiver, but try and get a guaranteed job!!

Whew, I thought you were thinking you were going to start out as a General, lol. I have no idea, seems a little risky to me having your future that wide open, but the AF is very good to it's people, just do the best with whatever they give you.

If an air force recruiter said you could go into the air force with the rank of General, I think I would get that in writing before I signed anything.

You should have been informed of that before signing up, go to the legal deportment on your base and see if you can transfer to the reserves until you can clear your name.
