as a 92G ( Cook) you can become Certified, and become a Chef if that is what you want to work towards, I was a cook (TANGO) for me I didnt like my MOS they way I thought I would because my heart wasnt in it like the other Soldier's in my Class.. they had hopes of wanting to work at the White house.. it wasnt for me, though I had been cooking since I was young it wasnt what I wanted for me.. if this is something you really want for you then go for it.. there is nothing wrong with being a cook .
I have since gone Active and changed my MOS to a 42A
With any mos you pick in the Military make sure its something YOU want to do, look at every aspect of that job..let nothing or noone hold you back!
Good luck in what ever you decide.. contact me I will be more than happy to tell you about Ft.Lee and more of 92g

In the British Army during training you will do a lot of culinary work. Scrubbing pots and pans, peeling potatoes etc.
When you go into the field you will do your own culinary work by living on 24 hour ration pack meals and washing your own utensils.
Other than that to train as a chef yes it is a good life but you will get little praise.

this past August a buddy's son who loves to cook enlisted in the Navy for culinary work. after basic training he was asked if he would like to be stationed at Camp David. he declined since he didn't think he'd be able to come home for any holidays if the sitting President decided to be at the Camp during any of the holidays (as Pres. Bush did this past Thanksgiving). He is now assigned aboard the USS Iwo Jima.

You're not going to be a chef in the Army. You can be a cook. The tools of that trade are a can opener and an oven.
