I go to minnesota. Every year I have applied for a permit I recieved one. the License is 250, a guide (bear baiter) is about 500 and week in a hotel is another 250. Very reasonable hunt, beautiful country and good people. Success rate is about 80%. I can post pictures of my bear as well.

Prince Of Wales Island, Alaska huge black bears no browns, I went got a Boone and Crockett bear. We did not need a guide but you need to check if that remains the same. There are ranger cabins you can rent for 50 dollars a week. All we did was drive old logging roads and glass clear cuts. Best hunt I ever had. We stayed at the Sure Strike Lodge in the fishing off season they were very good to us.

Alaska allows non-residents to hunt here. But the law requires either a family member who is an Alaskan resident to guide you or an outfitter. It’s mainly to keep people safe as our wilderness can kill you. Here is a link about that;

Why you can even hunt one of our big brown bears.

Here is an example of what outfitters offer;

In the fall before the bears den up the salmon run is on and you don’t need a guide to catch them.

And talk about scenery! People pay big bucks just to see our wilderness areas.

Its spendy but it would be that hunt you will never forget.
I have shot dozens here in Alaska and never struck out. Its just that we have LOTS of bears so the odds are in your favor.
I would use nothing smaller than a 30-06 as you will be around brown bears as well. And some guides wont let you take an under powered rifle or hand gun, even though they carry back up firearms like .338 Norma magnums.

I have had days hunting where I saw 12 or more black bears before it got dark.
