(This atheist knew I believed)

I was in a middle of my prayer with God and I was giving thanks for having a wonderful atheist in my life and was grateful for everything he'd done. This atheist opened the door and was very abusive to me and slandered me because he saw me doing this. The next three days I couldn't eat or sleep. It affected my work so much that my manager noticed this and got extremely angry with me. I had no one else to turn to. After 3 days of pain and agony, I went to Jesus crying for help. He knew exactly what book of the bible I needed to heal from. I turned to the page and read. The power of his Word was so overwhelming that I was renewed, healed, and strengthed right away (It felt like it was instant). I know it was God that rescued me!

Don't you think that a person who is abusive should get locked up or go get professional help instead of the victim?

They can not possably know what you experienced... they are hardened to The Truth... and without The Truth there is no understanding

You snapped yourself out of it. Hopefully you no longer hear voices in your head either.

And, your story sounds like a load of dung. You were praying for your gratefulness of a friend that is abusive and slanderous, then were so hurt by said friend being this way that it made you depressed and you DIDN'T read your bible for 3 days? Not very creative, sorry. Try again.

Edit: Your spouse? If this is real, you should need to seek help. You are with someone who is abusive and there is no reason for that. By help I mean, someone who can guide you and help you get out of the marriage. You can't change other people, but you can change your own life and prayer isn't going to do it for you.

You think it was God.

You read scripture, for three days, and eventually found verses that you could apply to your situation.... Your mind was managing stress and found a way to relieve it naturally.

Your faith and belief forces you to attribute this to God.

Right now I am reading Confessor, by Goodkind. It is a fantasy novel, I am nearing the end, and it is ramping up, and the main characters are dealing with tribulation and stress. I can directly apply what Goodkind wrote, to aspects of my current life. It is helpful, and my mind draws correlations between the storyline and things I need to do to help my situation.

That doesn't mean that I should worship Goodkind, or claim that he has supernatural abilities. It is just my mind behaving naturally and alleviating stress.

Your mind probably knew what book to turn to. People often underestimate the power of the subconscious to influence our daily lives. I'd wager you might've looked at the particular book of the Bible at one point, then forgotten about it, shelved it away back in the recesses of your mind. Your subconscious, though, went looking and found this, and gave you the impression you'd been given some divine insight, when more likely this subconscious impression made its way to your conscious mind.

What if you had opened the bible and had stumbled upon a genealogical list, or something else meaningless to your dilemma ---would you have extrapolated some absurdity from it, or would you have concluded Jesus was not there to answer you personally? If you must have faith, perhaps it would be wiser to ground it in something more tangible--- if it can indeed be found.

Yes.

You looked for evidence to support your hypothesis that Jesus exists. You found that evidence and now are even more passionate about your faith.

However- what if your god hates you and sent that atheist to you to abuse you and make you feel like crap.

You have also decided to forgo the understanding of evidence and the scientific process. Instead- move with your heart.

silly you.

This is obviously a fictional story.
Why do believers need to make things like this up? I don't get it.
If by some really remote chance, this isn't compete fiction, then you were a big whiny baby. Seriously, you need to get a spine.

This is what is so fascinating. You need some one else to tell you what to do and what to read. A good atheist would figure that out for them selves. You are so simple minded and lost without some one leading you around.

You could not eat, sleep, or focus because of what was going on in your mind. You were ready to feel renewed, healed, and strengthened so you convinced yourself after reading that passages that it was all better.

Yes, I often go to my Christian friends' houses and kick open their doors to try and catch them in the act of praying for me. If they are praying for me, I slap them around and verbally abuse them.

Get real. Your story is crap.

*Edit* -- Oh, a spouse? Well, your story sounds a little more plausible now. Perhaps your spouse sees your vocal praying to God (and including him in that prayer) as flaunting your beliefs. It would be like him walking around the house saying, "I'm so glad there is no God. I'm glad my wife is the result of millions of years of evolution, and I am too."

I still think your story is bogus.

*Edit 2* -- If your story is true, why not report this abuse to the police? You seem to be hinting that it was physical abuse, so get real help instead of reading fairy tales written by shepherds in the Bronze Age.

Truthfully, and don't take it personally, you sound as though you might need some professional help.
I know some people are touchy about their religious beliefs, but you really need to lighten up and don't take reliion so seriously.
