A pitt bull is like any other dog, trained properly, given love and attention, he'll be your best friend!

I think they're cute! And definitely they have a bad rap from the media, because I have met so many pit bulls and pit bull mixes who are so sweet and good-natured, and I think it's a shame how the entire breed has been flagged as a public menace just because of a few bad examples of pit bulls who were either improperly trained or somehow aggravated before attacking. Pretty much ALL dogs will attack when provoked, and even when they aren't provoked, the animal instinct is in all dogs- I was bitten on the leg by a fluffy little Bichon Frise as a child for no apparent reason. It is not a question of whether a dog is a pit bull, but a question of whether the dog owner is responsible. The whole thing is silly, I think.

Love the ones that I own and that friends own, they're great dogs. I am leery of others' pits though sometimes. Example: There is a couple that frequent the same dog park I do. The more I see them, the more I see how they differ in their form of training. The man yells at this poor dog, and IMO he probably beats him at home bc this dog looks scared sh*tless everytime the guy approaches him. The woman however, NEVER disciplines this dog and if he pulls her around the park, she lets him with no fight.

This is an exaple of why people don't like Pit Bulls but say nothing about how poor the owners are.

Of course that also goes for any dog that is treated this way! Whether it be a pit or a chihuahua, I don't want my boys playing with dogs that have these kinds of owners.

I think pitbulls make fine dogs. I have never owned one personally but my ex-roommate from a few years ago had one named Tyson and he seemed like a great dog. They are very muscular dogs, he was loving and minded well. Good running partner. Echoing some of the other responses any dog that is in a good environment and trained and raised well make good pets.

Honestly, I am alittle leary of them. I have met several that I think are very good dogs though. The only thing that scares me is the fact that most, not all, act completely different around cats and small animals. We had two come in one time to be fixed and they were fine with us(people) and when we walked them by a carrier with 2 week old kittens in it(mother was killed and we were bottle feeding them) they went crazy and one of them bit the carrier and shook it violently. It was very scary. Anyway, they came to us because the owner wasn't taking care of them so it was probably the owner who helped make them that way. I personally believe that all dogs should be given a chance and should not be repremanded for what breed their parents were. My husband had one growing up and he thinks that they are good dogs if trained properly.

I really love the dogs. I just recently got one from a rescue. She is the sweetest most well mannered dog. She plays great with my 3 year old and with my other dog too. She loves meeting people and she's very clean and calm. With the right owner and proper training and lots of love any dog can make a great dog.

I have one and he is the most wonderful dog i've ever had. All the other dogs we've owned have bit me (doberman pincher even bit my neck!) but not my pit. Even my sis's 13 mo old baby twins can stick their hands in his mouth and play with his food and he does not hurt or nibble or bite them. he may lick, but that is it. My sis's 3 year old daughter always says "Duke (the dog's name) is my best friend!"

All dogs are however their owner trains them. We have trained our pit to be an outstanding member of society (6 more mos of training and he could have been a seeing eye dog!) and he is a member of our family.

he is a rescue dog, a previous pit fighter who has been completely rehabilitated. It is possible to rehabilitate fighting dogs! You just have to love them enough and take the time!

According to AKC, they are in the top 5 for best dogs to have around children.

Because they have gotten a bad rep, due to bad owners, like Michael Vick as well as others, I probably won't ever have one, but I don't have anything against them. I know that there are some pit bulls out there that are wonderful dogs. My daughters boy friend has 2, and she doesn't trust them outside of his house. (she's been around dogs ALL her life)
That doesn't mean they are bad dogs, but she knows that they weren't socialized, and that can cause problems just as much as having a bad owner.

I think Pitbulls are wonderful beautiful dogs that can make great pets. I hate the stereotyping that Pitbulls are bad aggressive dogs.

I have a "cute" Corgi that looks like a teddy bear, but he is more vicious than any Pitbull I have ever encountered.
