Religious arguments are about as fulfilling as emptying the Atlantic with a teaspoon. Both sides use circular arguments to prove their case. Anyway here hoes...

In addition every argument can have a counter.

Religious Case; God exists, but doesn't reveal {his/her/it's}self because you must have faith. You have to believe because God exist.
Counter : If we need true faith, why do we have religious text like the Bible. Surely these mean that we cannot have absolute faith, similar anyone telling you about God is diminishing your faith.

Evolutionary Case; Evidence indicates that the Creation as stipulated is false and that chance rules every action.
Counter : If you have absolute power you can create the earth aged 4.5billion years and stopping the Earth's rotation so that a day takes thousands of years would be easy. If the main driving force in the Universe's actions is entropy, why does the rise of life appear contrary to this.

I generally tend towards the scientific case because it's a long time since a bunch of physicists tried attack me for not believing the Big Bang theory, saying that I hear that some of these conferences can be quite intimidating...

The evidence for the existence of God is all around us. Not only is it preached in Church, but it is on the same internet that you are using right now, and God is in the very life that we live. If someone ignores the evidence and claims there is none, then what good is it to present that evidence to you? Are you not going to try and find a tricky argument against it, because you claim that there is no evidence nor fact supporting the existence of God? Then what's the point in fishing for it, bringing it here, and showing it to you when you will roll your eyes, just as many people of religion do to evolution?

Well, it all started a long time ago, when many people were rather uneducated and primitive. Some of the clever people thought' how can we get control of this lot, make them fear us, do our bidding and give us anything we want?'. Thus religion was born, easy to sell to a gullible population who still believed the earth was flat. And it's just gone on from there, in different guises, as a means of control and power for the leaders. You don't think any of them actually believe in the story, do you? You only have to look at how many break their own rules to realise that they're just peddling the faith to serve their own ends.

I have a friend who feels the exact same way that you do...thats why I don't discuss philosophy or religion with him. He feels that if you can't know the answer to something, then there is no need to think about it. He uses this as an excuse to not examine his religious beliefs or his life in general. Personally, I think that some of life's greatest and most interesting questions don't have definite well packaged answers.

Well SINCE theists can't provide any evidence, and constantly use religion in politics, etc. (separation of church and state anyone?) and the U.S. is way behind older countries which are much more secular, shows that the U.S. needs to wise up and stop falling back on religion to solve things because it only causes conflict and the rest of the world laughing. Religion has to go down on the list of importance if we're going to get anywhere.

Eventually, in a few hundred years all of the current religions will end up in mythology books.

^ Jay, of course evolution isn't proven. It's SCIENCE. Nothing in science is proven. However, evolution is a fact.

"the fool hath said in his heart, there is no God."

it isn't unproven, it is yet to be fulfilled. there is a great difference, and the difference is time.

ill tell you this, it was proof to abraham, it was proof to moses, it was proof to isaiah, it was proof to peter, james, john, matthew, luke, and every apostle, and every disciple and every witness of that day, and every witness that has passed it on, it was proof to all of them... are you any better than they to reject their proof just because you can't see it or hear it or know it for sure? God told joshua and the israelites to march around the city of jericho for seven days... did that make any sense? no, but they did it anyway and the walls came crashing down... all because they trusted.

i'll also tell you if you think you know God, it is a good indication that you don't know Him at all.

if you love God, and therefor trust God, then you will truly know Him.

There reason why you say there is no proof--it is because you do not care. It takes a desire to seek, and it requires the effort of action to find--something you lack.

Deuteronomy 4:29
But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Jeremiah 29:13
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Matthew 7:8
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

You are given a treasure map in the Bible. You can ignore it as a fake, disregard it as fantasy, or consider the possibility and buy some picks and shovels. God will reward the treasure to the one who invests in the journey and does the digging. There is more than enough treasure for everyone.

So your saying there IS proof of religion? Look at your question. You say religion is an unproven thing. Yet your quote shows that there is religion. All you are proving is that religion is a futile endeavor. I agree. But how is the futility of religion suppose to prove your point regarding the proof of God?

True...
It could be we are just here to procreate, perhaps evolve our culture.

A Creator cannot be denied - what it is - i don't know. But I wonder if its interested in all the religious nuts who get on here. If they proved to be better people they might have a reason for existing...
