Microsoft does not give their products away for free but you can try Open Office. It is a free alternative to Microsoft Office and is completely compatible with Office programs. The application called Writer is just like Word.
OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute.

OpenOffice is decent but pretty slow, sluggish, and lacks the features of Word. If you need super basic office software, try Google Docs + Spreadsheets.

You can not get Word for free. Though you can get a very good, free word clone.
It's called openoffice, it comes with useful apps including a writer.
