See if your local library has a subscription to the online database "Ferguson's Career Guidance Center." It's a comprehensive listing of basically any career you can think of plus what it takes to get into that line of work, the average pay, your general responsibilities, and the future outlook for that specific industry.
It's a really great resource. If they don't have it, ask them why not!! (Or check a college library at that point, as they sometimes have more money for things like databases.)

You want to look at the U.S Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook - it is a searchable database of thousands of job titles, and what the work is like, salary ranges, and educational requirements.
