Generally it just depressurizes through the hole that was created by whatever punctured it. The contents of the can come out with some force though, so it can create quite the mess. Now, if you throw the can in a fire, that's a whole nother story...

Its not going to blow up, it just releases the chemicals inside and depending on whats in the can the un-mixed substances could be more harmful to breath and be around.

the old saying curiosity killed the cat you will get hurt if you are holding it or covered in the contents the can is pressurised
