Well I have my doubts about Christianity in general, but my biggest beef specifically is with Catholicism.

I don't agree with telling your 'sins' to a priest - that is between you and your god and you should try to correct them in your own. Have similar issues with the various other rituals.

I am ashamed to admit that I have not thoroughly investigated many other religions, but I find it hard to believe there is any sort of god out there. I think religion is just a means of controlling people, and giving life a nice rosy tint. It gives people a reason for being, comforts them when they are sick or dying and forms a sense of community. However I think it is also a means of escaping from the truth - people can't deal with the idea that there may not *be* any more to life.

As someone else has already mentioned, most religions claim to be based on peace and love. Why then, are they so often the cause of wars and conflict? Look at Iraq, supposedly the 'holy land'.

If you are a good, kind and honest person you cannot go far wrong.

I disagree with most religions on many points, even my own, Thelemic Paganism. However, every religion has something to offer. It takes a wise person to know what each religion has that is good, and what needs to be thrown out.

Any one of them that makes people irresponsible for their own life and happiness. Any one of them that uses fear as a tactic to keep it's followers in-line. Any one of them that takes away from that which makes up an individual. Any one of them that teaches man is more important than any other species.

As a comparative theologian I know the varied expressions of faith throughout the history of man. There are elements of the truth in all of them.

But to me, it's like a meal; spiritual food for the soul.

All faiths that accept many gods are like bread and water. They'll fill your belly but they're not really nutritious. After awhile you die of malnutrition.

All faiths that accept one deity are decent meals, nutritious but somehow not quite enough.

Protestant Christianity is like Sunday dinner. Lots of good food, but still lacking, like not having dessert or missing the meat.

Orthodox Christianity is like a holiday meal, yummy, but insufficient for daily life.

Catholicism is the wedding feast of the King of Kings and it lasts forever.

Being greedy, I'll take the latter.
