My uncle---testicular and lymphatic---20 plus years. He was VERY sick when it was caught, and only caught because he had a car accident and broke his leg bad. His blood work at the time showed something was "off". He had been REALLY really bad at the time, and they didn't expect him to make it. HE is TOTALLY fine now. Goes once a year for check up on his blood and stuff.

My grandmother had stomach and uterine/ovarian cancer (different times). Lived over 20 years afterwards. Died from unrelated problems about 7 years ago.....the cancers never came back.

My husband had cancer last year....found it by a fluke. We are currently on the "every 6 months" recheck schedule right now.....every 6 months it is scary, but, I pray, and I try to brace myself and be prepared to be as strong as I can be for him....for us, and to take care of him again. I would do ANYTHING to have it be me, going through the pain for him....we have only been married now for 4 months, but together for 8 years.

I hope my answers helped some.....cancer is not an easy thing...but, it made my husband's and my relationship stronger.....truly. (that was the only good thing I can say about it.) We learned to live with what we have and to love with all we have, and to cherish everyday, every sunset, every sunrise, every snowstorm, every thunderstorm.

My grandmother had ovarian cancer in her 30's. She passed away at 96. Her cancer was discovered in the 40's and she survived. I was treated Stage 2 cervical cancer and have been cancer free almost a year. I have to be free for 3 years to be considered cured. So far, so good.

Most of the people I know who had cancer did not survive. But the teacher that I had in the 3rd grade had cancer and she has been cancer free for 10 years now. It is truly awesome to survive the disease and it makes you live your life in a completely different (more appreciative) way.

My cousin's daughter had kidney cancer when she was 2 or 3 and is now 27, married and a new mom, which was a total blessing because the doctors weren't sure after all the chemo and radiation if she would be able to have children.
