All 3 of our girls use their wheel-- the hairless actually *taught* her younger companions to use it. They have a big Silent Spinner & run so much that they dislodge it nearly every day. Whenever it comes loose, whoever had been using it will come look @ me b/c she knows I'll fix it for them.
Although *most* rats I've known didn't use their wheels we've had a fair # of girls who were @ least somewhat interested. Even when we had a free-range room a couple of them would occasionally hop on the wheel for a few minutes. None of our boys so far has been a wheel afficionado, tho.

Some rats do, but the rats I have owned never really did. With rats and wheels you must be careful, because rats tails can get caught in the wires. If you do invest in a wheel, get one that cannot catch the rats tail.

Most rats don't like to use wheels, and according to one article I read the reason is "because they are probably too smart." (I just thought that last part was amusing!)

I used to have an explorer ball for the first rat I had. She rarely did anything in it except sit there.

Be careful with wheels. Besides their tails gtting caught, they can sometimes be bad for their backs too. Rats enjoy "floor time." I put my boys in the bathtub (without water) the other day and gave them some toilet paper roles, an old shirt, and other objects for them to explore. They seemed to like it. A good part about a bathtub is that it is usually deep enough that you don't have to keep a constant eye on them. I'm not saying leave them there all day, but you don't have to watch them like a hawk either.

My rats like my shoulders. One of mine actually fell asleep on me yesterday!

My rats are amazing. I love them to death, so I just got them "the rat mansion". It is 12''X24''X43'', and includes a big wheel. I have 2 small female rats, 8'' long each without the tail. They are new to the wheel, and they seem to be scared of them. Rats love wheels if they're raised on them, but aren't thrilled if they aren't. It would take time for your rat to get used to a wheel.

I have 2 rats right now and the only thing they do with their wheel is climb under it and sleep. My past pet rats haven't liked their wheels either. It may have just been them, but I don't think most rats like them.......some rats may though.

Well. My mum went out and bought a pretty large hamster cage for my rats and it has a wheel. The wheels not too small but then its not too big either.. I tried putting my girls in it a few times but they dont understand it. They dont use it much, they prefer standing on it while trying to escape

I love rats. rats dont tend to use their wheels as often although one should always be there just in case they want to use it. They are more inquisitive animals really and just like to have a roam around rather than run round and round, like a hamster would. Rats prefer to be let out the cage and sit by you or on your shoulder, like my mates hamster did..

My 4 rats all do not use the wheel for its real purpose, they believe it makes a good bathroom.

I bought my rats a large wheel so that they wouldn't feel cramped in it, but they never looked at it once. Was a waste of money, they much preferred their tubes, hammock, and other toys.
