Why would police officers ask for social security number? Do they want to spy? Do they want to get a background check on you? Please let me know.

your 5th amendment rights only go towards statements that can be used against you as evidence. giving your name, date of birth, social security number, diseases, tattoos etc. are not evidence of a crime. I can have blue eyes and be diabetic. they aren't going to lock me up for that. now if they asked you 'where'd you hide the body"? THAT would be a violation of your 5th amendment rights. not, "what is your social secuirty number".

SS number is a unique form of identification. Most of the time, only YOU can remember your SS#.
If you fail or refuse to give ALL of your identifiers, you could have a new charge on you.

Or even better, you can get INTO jail without cooperating, but you can't get out without cooperating....

It's not only legal, it is mandatory in my state...

Most times it is because of more than one person with that name. If you are arrested and they cannot positively identify you, you can be held until you are.

It is legal to ask for your SS#

By saying no the cops is only going to make it harder on you.

I can even ask you for your SS#
