It started off thay way, through the Vedas, but English and Muslim cultures soaked into things and they somehow lost touch with their true roots. They're starting to get back up on their proverbial "feet" again though, www.hinduismtoday.com

Even though it has good concepts of the Universe, Hinduism suffers the same Patriarchal tainting that Christianity suffers.

Women are not treated very well today.

Though, ancient Hinduism has its roots in Matriarchy, and women were alloted certain pleasures that men weren't.

The Vedas do. in fact, certain rights are only afforded to women, and they are considered equal to men politically in the earliest writings. But common practice in India has been overly influenced by the Islamic imperial rule, and todays Indian may not know his own tradition.
