Use tweezers, carefully grip the body of the tick as close to your skin as possible. Pull slowly to allow the tick to release it's mouthparts, do not turn or twist the tick, because this can cause the mouth parts to be broken off. DO NOT use matches, cigarettes, gasoline or pins to attempt to remove tick, as this will only irritate the tick into spitting up it's stomach contents. Also the use of Vaseline or other oil products to smother the tick is not recommended as this can take hours.
After tick is removed, wash the area with soap and water, and apply alcohol.
Watch the site for infection or Bulls Eye rash.
Put the tick in a small bottle and fill bottle with alcohol, save to take to doctor in case, site where you were bitten becomes infected.

Use a pair of tweezers, rotate the tick so it is perpendicular to the skin and tug rapidly. This method has the highest chance of getting the whole tick removed.

Seriously, if you burn the tick or upset it by putting chemicals on it, the regurgitates into your skin, and raises the risk of getting Lyme Disease.
They made tick tweezers that you use to grab down by their head with and pull them GENTLY out.
Be sure to watch the area for the next week or so for a rash, or flu-like symptoms that could indicate Lyme Disease.

Good luck!

Pluck them off with TWEEZERS and while the tick is still on the tweezer, hold a lighter to it until it makes a pop or burns to a crisp. Then invest in some Frontline!!! Wal Mart even has an off brand that's cheaper....Good luck!

grab the tick with something that you can get closest to the head and start turning counter clockwise.. it somehow releases the grip on the jaws. there are actual devices that are made specificallty for that , they grab on the tick and allow you to twist. this is the best method because it assures ALL of the tick is removed and the head isnt stuck in

I just saw something about this and it said the best way was to pull it out by the head (where it meets the skin) with a tweezers. The head is the part that can cause infection or Lyme disease. Clean the bite with peroxide of alcohol. Seek medical help if it looks infected or it is sore.

i have to agree with the unanimous decision of tweezers i unfortunately deal with ticks alot and lost count how many i have pulled off my dog or myself i would typically use tweezers to remove them then burn it but also I'm not sure if you know the difference between wood ticks and deer ticks i think it is but it might help ease you mind if you can determine it was one that dosent usually carry Lyme disease and thanks to the poster who told of the special tweezers i never knew about them i think i will have to invest in a pair

they have to want to back out of the skin so maybe light a match and blow it out, and stick it on the tick directly, but you still should see a doctor if it gets red around that area, the head may still be in.
