I'm an athiest and I celebrate christmas...Not as a religious holiday but I approve of it as a holiday because people tend to give to the less fortunate. It opens people's eyes to doing good. Most people never even mention God, Jesus, or religion for christmas. It's just called the season of giving and that's the reason I celebrate...Anyone else out there that celebrates?

I'm an atheist too and I also celebrate the holidays. My family are all religous and obviously very into Christmas. I love them and would hate to alienate myself from them so I celebrate with them. And I don't feel like a hypocrite either. I'm just spending QT with the fam. Besides, the Christians stole this holiday in the first place, why should they get it all to themselves?

Yes I am... but I am also wise enough to realize that most Christians who celebrate Christmas do so under false pretense and completely live in this make believe world of misinformation... they have no idea about how Christmas got started and that pretty much everything they celebrate was ripped off from Pagans as a way to convert them.

Yes, I celebrate, but I don't do any of the Christian stuff (go to church, put up a nativity scene, write "Happy Birthday Jesus" in my cards").

For those Christians who think this is wrong, I say, well, if my employer and the government gave me Yom Kippur off I would celebrate that too.

I celebrate it for my daughters. We spoil them. They are still quite young and love the whole Santa idea. I also told them about it being celebrated by other people for other reasons. I do believe its a good excuse to help out others. I like helping out however I can. I just don't like to limit it to Christmas.

As a sarcastic, cynical skeptic I want to wish everyone a Very Merry and Grateful Christmas.

Christmas is a time to celebrate the affection of buddies and kin. No mythology is mandatory. The Jesus tale is purely yet another fanciful fable of the season, no diverse than Santa Claus.

It's a year-end excuse to gorge myself with food, booze up, and get festive with friends and family.

If it wasn't Christmas, I'd just make up some other excuse in December.

Wooo!

Yes. I celebrate, because I enjoy celebrating. I'll happily celebrate pretty much anything.

Yep. We do the same in my household, partly for the reasons you mention, and partly because of family tradition.
