This ain't comin' from no prophet
Just an ordinary man
When I close my eyes I see
The way this world shall be
When we all walk hand in hand

When the last child cries for a crust of bread
When the last man dies for just words that he said
When there's shelter over the poorest head
We shall be free

When the last thing we notice is the color of skin
And the first thing we look for is the beauty within
When the skies and the oceans are clean again
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud
'Cause we shall be free
When we're free to love anyone we choose
When this world's big enough for all different views
When we all can worship from our own kind of pew
Then we shall be free
We shall be free

We shall be free
Have a little faith
Hold out
'Cause we shall be free

And when money talks for the very last time
And nobody walks a step behind
When there's only one race and that's mankind
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud, have a little faith, hold out
We shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, have a little faith

We shall be free

They threw a fit because of the line"When we're free to love anyone we choose " since Garth Brooks' sister is a lesbian

huh - didn't know we did that. I liked the song - still do. Didn't know about Garth Brooks sister. I do know there was a fit when he divorced his wife for (OMG - I forgot her name)

Out of curiousity - why did you quit God? This was a manmade reaction, a man made protest, idiotic-man-made-moral majority BS.

I wonder sometimes if there is anything Christians will not boycott, protest or ban.
The religious right are the only ones who ever banned Christmas.

Oddly enough all that their protests usually accomplish is getting free publicity for whatever they are upset about. If I was making a movie that I expected to be a stinker I would hope the Christians protest it and save me some advertising dollars.

Just tell me: Why do you blame God !! You make the case that he could use the help of people such as yourself.

Does a good follower have the effect on you that a bad one does ? Or were you just looking for an excuse.

so...

the 'your own kind of pew' thing didn't bother them, they went 'straight' for the loving part? what frak heads.

i wish more of them knew about the movie 'zeitgeist', people should at least watch it, and a fundie boycott would really spread the word. alas, it's only an art house flick.

i can't imagine anyone from a mainstream church going ape over these lyrics. archbishop desmond tutu has said that if he discovered god was a homophobe that is one of the few things which might cause him to lose his faith.

i think a lot of american 'christians' are just homophobes looking for an excuse.

I remember my kids were listening to some punk song that went

"Je-e-e-esus Christ"
"Deny your maker"

And many Christians had a FIT.

Little did they know that the next lines were
"He who tries will be wasted", at which I reveled in the irony.

P.S. I quit God in college too, when I got "enlightened", then i noticed how stupid the teachers were who had "enlightened" me, and came back to reality real quick.

In case you haven't noticed, any one who insults or disrespects another human being, regardless of race, sexual orientation, etc., is not listening to anything Jesus had to say, so they are probably not a real Christian. Just to let you know.
"Judge not..."

You may think you quit God at that event , but if your question were actually sincere, you only disassociated from people who behave as antagonists to Christ.

You may believe that you have abandoned God, but God has not abandoned you. You have only separated yourself from a church preaching deception, not God. He delivered you from that deception.

I never understood the problem with what he said. There is nothing wrong with loving someone. For that fact the whole thing has a wonderful message.
