Atheist Machine, I would disagree. My entire family have been Atheist's for generations! I wouldn't say it's more than 90%, way too high!
I have never really thought about the existance of God simply because I wasn't brought up to but mostly because I feel fine as I am believing in myself. I like the idea of there being something else out there but I've never believed it to be God. There are too many things out there to imagine for there to be than just one amazing thing.
That's what I personally feel and I'm completely content with myself. Not that I'm not open, I'm quite Agnostic and I have several deeply religious friends who are always talking to me about it all because I do find it all interesting but I've found my own little way of walking through life and I've never been religous, just open to what we don't yet know.
It's down to the person though, it's completely personal, so I don't believe anyone's right or wrong. We are all sharing essentially where we live and most probably will for quite a while yet.
:)

I've given it lots of thought. I see God as a concept. There have been many different ideas of God throughout time and throughout various cultures. I think many of the concepts have meaning to the human psyche, but religion is often polluted for social, political or economic gain.
As far as a literal being called God existing, I just don't see how it is possible. Even if it where, how can anyone say that God exists the way they see it and not in any of the myriad ways other people have seen it existing?
So that's my bit for now. I really do appreciate the respectful way you asked this question.

Yes...I once gave it some thought...when I was about age 3 to 6...and then...
When I realized "Santa" and "Frosty" and "The Tooth Fairie" and "The Easter Bunny" weren't real...
...and there were no "real" monsters and ghosties and alien beings and unfrozen dinosaurs that come back to life, and all the other "fictional and mythological" characters that our crazy culture popularizes...
"God" got tossed out with the rest of the bunch...because there is no difference between them...
Thank you very much...(and having taken upper division Genetics and Anthropology and Archaelogy and Astronomy and Biology and Chemistry and Physics and a host of other modern day science courses that are on the cutting edge of human knowledge...it is very difficult (knowing what I know now about the nature of matter and life) to go back to believing in primitive childish superstitions that have no basis in fact or "harsh reality..."
So...yes...I used to wonder about it back in Kindergarten...
But I am 43 years old now...and well educated...and well read...and very experienced in all aspects of life, including the "spiritual" one...and I can tell you...
None of us knows what the Hell is going on...and none of us ever will...we not only don't know what's going on...we don't even know if something IS going on...it's a mystery...or maybe it's not...but one thing is for sure...
I don't know...you don't know...and nobody friggin' knows...
Lol...

I used to be Christian. I'm agnostic now. The points that atheists
make really made sense to me (my brother is atheist so i learned about it from him). I don't see that there is any true evidence to support the religious beliefs or non-religious reasoning. I do wonder if there is a God out there, but I'm not really sure. We could just be Nothing's dream.
I love this quote.
I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

I used to believe in God. I accepted Jesus as my saviour. I studied the bible. For 22 years. Then what happened was while I was defending Jesus to my Pagan sister in law she got me thinking. I did research on my own and found out that my faith was based on her religion. Then because I wanted nothing to do with a whole bunch of Gods I did more research. To make a long journey short. I am now Atheist. To make you understand the shear plethora of emotions I had to get through to get here would not be possible. I gave it a painstaking amount of "thought" to say the least.
Peace.

One of the most gross and incorrect assumptions about atheists is that we've never given the concept of God or any religion a chance. Nothing could be further from the truth. Atheists on average have studied and experienced more than their share in these departments.
I suggest reading this essay, "An Introduction to Atheism":

Raised Catholic. Attended 12 years of Catholic school. I know all about it, and I made a conscious and, I feel, educated choice to believe that biblical based religion is BS and really holds no more weight than any other religion and is in fact nothing more than another mythology. Its interesting, the stories are sorted and mystic, and in the end, are still just stories.

I don't believe in God because I researched all types of religions and their beliefs. It all seemed to be fairytales. I don't knock people who believe, because some people jsut need something to believe in, in order to get through life. After research and coming to my own conclusions...I realized that the only person who can dictate my life is me and trying to believe in something that's not real is hindering me, instead of helping me. So I no longer think about God, unless I'm having a discussion like this.

G/gods were primitive man's way of dealing with the unknown, they held the answers to life's mysteries. Man usually made their G/gods with personalities that resembled human and these G/gods were usually involved in the minutia of human existence. They require elaborate rituals, scarifies and utter dedication.
Millions of people have killed and died for the love their G/gods, however none exists in reality, they live only as myth. It's difficult to accept, but we as a species have got to embrace reason and abandon superstition.
I've spent most of my life as a Christian and I hold great reverence for our Creator (Nature), but IT is not a "God".

Satan doesn't want people to believe & wants to turn away people from God & Even Satan has to bow down to the Lord in the end & admit that Jesus is Lord.
No offence to you or anyone, but you all need the facts that Jesus Loves you & died for you & was raised up to heaven, to make a place for you.
God gives you a choice, & you live by UR choices & you die by UR choices.
