He already has a nintendo...I would get something that he would learn something with but is fun to where he doesn't realize it. Something science oriented like a microscope. A kid that age would love to put everything he found in the backyard under a microscope. ;)

Well if he likes games and has a Nintendo DS(which I will assume means he likes Nintendo,) I'd say definitely go for a Wii. The biggest problem, though, is most likely you will have a very hard time finding one by Christmas.
Some other possibilities would be an Xbox360 or a PS3. Xbox360 is more expensive than a Wii, you can get one for about $300-$400 and it usually comes with two games(Mine came with Forza Motorsport and some Marvel game with lots of comic book characters.) A PS3 is the most expensive, ranging from $400-$500. Both the PS3 and the Xbox360 have racing games and sports games, along with a few more mature games that are probably not suitable for a 10 year old.
There are also a few good racing games for the Nintendo DS, which would be good choices I think. If you go to a place like Gamestop, they could definitely help you find the good ones. Anything that is "need for speed" is usually a pretty smart choice.
Another idea would be a PSP. It's a handheld similar to the DS that is made by Sony rather than Nintendo. It's got a lot of good games for it as well, and it isn't incredibly expensive. I believe it's about $150 for one right now, but it could be lower.

my son is the same way. I got him this year a telescope so that we can look at the night sky ( an activity for us to do together ) and some books on top of the normal things he's asked for ( power rangers, transformers, spiderman, yada yada yada lol ) You know what would be sentimental and teach him a nice lesson for this time of year? Give a gift like to toys for tots or something in his name.

To be 10 and still sweet, you're lucky! Rather than material stuff, take him to "do" something together before it becomes uncool to hang out with your parents. Depending on where you live you can find activities to do together weather permitting. Wrap up the tickets or a map of your plans...he'll look forward to it and so will you : )
