Someone told me "It's illegal to just let some doves go into "the wild" and not recapture them." is this true I live in TX will be married in a small town just north of Austin. Also I would like to know what a GOOD price to pay for a WHITE dove is. I have a lady trying to sale them for $50 each i just think thats a little High.

I'm not sure what the going rate is, but here's a Dove Releasing Company in Austin. Their doves fly back to their home nest after being released, so the law shouldn't be an issue.

Congrats! :o)

***Edit***
This place charges $125 for 10 doves...that doesn't sound unreasonable at all!

I don't know about the law,but it is just common sense not to release domesticated animals into the wild-they don't know how to take care of themselves.
Check the yellow pages or advertise in newspapers for someone with trained doves for your wedding plans and get price quotes from all that respond. Then get it in writing from the person you select.

White "dove" info, the white doves released at a wedding are really white homing pigeons that look very much like doves. Being what they are homing pigeons naturally they return home to their dovecote and then attend another wedding impersonating "white doves" Please find someone that has white homing pigeons and you may rest assured they will be in no danger.

Every place that I have seen, the doves are trained to come back. They will do a little flying around and then go back to the trainer.

you don't have to buy them. there are plenty of places that rent doves, pigeons, etc., along with handlers for weddings, funerals (which may be one in the same). use google to find one in your area.
